Say what you want about the new GNR,the fact of the matter is the new incarnation of the band is VERY TALENTED! Buckethead may be an odd–ball (which all rockers are anyway) but he is one of the best guitarists in the world.I heard he SMOKES on all the GNR classics which is damn good considering he is such an eclectic player. Also,he will draw a lot of attention to himself and the band with his goofy stage presence which will help the band fit in nicely with the Slipknot's and Powerman 5000's in the modern metal scene.

This buckethead sounds like a real winner.

I take it your a fan of the new GnR, but the fact remains that they are not GnR and will not be able to
emulate the brilliance of " Appetite...." and they are not GnR! By the way, why on earth would they want to fit in with such an untalented crowd as Slipknot? Mask wearing full, You could have at least said a good modern band like Machine Head or One minute silence!
Bucket head cannot compare to the brilliance of Slash, not to mention Hammet, Petrucci etc.

As you can tell, kristo.. most of us here in the 80's xchange forums are not very interested in "modern metal" such as Slipknot... so comparing the new G&R to them is a big turn off to alot of us older generation
G&R + Slash fans...

Yeah Not Man.. I'm with you on that one.. sounds like a real winner. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//yucky.gif

I'll at least hear them with the new line-up... and if it sounds like the rest of the new crap that's out there now, I'll dig out my Appetite For Destruction album, close my eyes, and slip back into the 80s.. where I belong http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//00sleepy.gif

You guys are reading way too deeply into my prior post.

I dislike "mall metal",Slipknot and Powerman 5000.I also dislike the new GNR.I never said I like the new GNR.

What I was stressing is that with the new sound and image of the band there is a good chance that they will appeal to today's "metal" crowd.

...and I will always give credit where credit is due: The new GNR is very talented, especially Buckethead (and Axl of course).

The new Slash's Snakepit CD "Ain't Life Grand" will fill any void the classic GNR left for now.Check it out if you haven't already. These guys kicked ass opening for AC/DC at the Meadowlands in New Jersey a few months ago.Their first CD is very good too.

Tinajo,I'm 30 years old and very much an "older generation" GNR fan–not to mention some of their influences which my older brothers were always playing loud in my house since my infancy.

In closing,I'm not trying to start an argument (this is like deja–vu).I just wanted to mention that they're talented and just might make some noise with their new, modern image.MIGHT make some noise.I am very happy to meet more people (albeit in print) who share my PASSION for this music and '80s culture in general.

P.S. I must admit I do like Sevendust and Godsmack.I definetly would not call them "mall metal".

Once again, kristo.. no one was arguing with you on this matter.. this is a tough crowd when it comes to the newer style of metal...

You seem to take opinions very seriously... don't.. we all like to get along on this board... and you mentioned that you didn't like the new G&R.. it sure sounded like you were singing their praises awfully loudly to all of us that posted to your reply...

(Not that it matters if you like them or not)

Tinajo, again.I give credit where credit is due.I praise the new band for the fact it is very talented. So are a lot of bands I don't like.I,as a huge music lover,RESPECT quality musicianship and always will praise fine musicians no matter what genre of music they represent.

It's funny that you said I take opinions too seriously because I feel my opinions are taken way too seriously by others here at times.I mean, look at the way I was responded to after my first post. Now that's serious. All I did was defend myself. What I said was taken way out of context.Look back at my first post and read it carefully.I said nothing about liking the new direction of GNR.But again,THEY'RE TALENTED.That's all I like about them.

All in all it is great to see strong support of '80s style metal.I'm so stuck in the '80s I think family and friends worry about me sometimes hehe.

I'm on all your sides.

Yeah Kristo I see what your saying now, sorry about that man, but slash is such a hero, that that bucket head dude makes me feel sick!

I respect other music also, and am a fan of both the 80s ( my main love) and they modern day music like Machine head, Queens of the stone age, etc. I see no shame in liking modern day metal and Rock, but just tend not to mention my like of these bands on this page as they are not appreciated here!http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

As a longtime Buckethead fan...well, since 1994 when I saw a short article in a guitar magazine on him and wanted to find out what he sounded like... I have to say, he is an extremely talented guitarist. Then again, he should not be the lead guitarist of Guns N' Roses. I will accept Axl's band as the true Guns N' Roses only when he has both Duff McKagan and Slash. Maybe if Buckethead ends up being the rhythm guitarist, that will be fine with me. So, in closing, here is what the Guns N' Roses lineup for the new millennium should be...making both Slash and Buckethead fans happy:

Vocals: Axl Rose
Lead Guitar: Slash
Bass: Duff McKagan
Rhythm Guitar: Buckethead
Drums: Preferably Matt Sorum, but whoever is in the new Guns N' Roses will be just fine...by the way, whatever happened to Steven Adler?
Keyboards...if they even want to have them anymore: Dizzy Reed

Wouldn't that just like totally rule?

Well I agree with you their man, that would be a totally kick ass line up - dont think its gona happen though!

Steven Adler - well last time i heard he was totally out of his brain on smack, and bitchn about the past! Its a pity for him, he was the man! "Appetite...." was by far the best piece of work they did!

I don't care how talented a guitarist is, Steve Morse is talented but he's no metal guitarist, Eric Johnson's talented too, but not a rocker. Buckethead sounds like he has no hair. People with no hair are not metal. People like Rob Halford are slight exceptions to the rule, since most kids I know liked him better in the Turbo Lover phase where he started growing it out, and we tolerated him because the rest of the band was good. All my life there have been wannabe's like this buckethead moron sounds like, who were quick attention freaks. "Grim Reaper" was one way back in the beginning. I can't believe this generation tolerates posers.

actually I just saw bucket head on Lycos Tv music video page
(go to http://tv.lycos.com and click on their music video section, then click on the rock/metal section then go to the menu bar where it says "more music videos" and scroll down till You see "The Ballad of Buckethead")

it's the guys from Primus actually.

I think some major drug use was going on with that video. I thought Axl gave up drugs. Anyway, if You're into tripping this video is for You, but this guy is nowhere near anything Guns and Roses EVER did.

His main talent lies in jazz/fusion improvisation, playing Chromatic Dorian mode with occasional accidentals and several legato dissonant augmentations.

Maybe he can play old Guns stuff, but he definately has a bucket on his head (KFC) and a Phantom of the Opera 'tragedy' white mask. He seems like a reject from Beck's band. I was waiting for him to drop the flying V and start breakdancing.

Anyhoo, that's my review,
go to Lycos and laugh at him too.

Hello to all,

My view on the *new* GN'R is that it's NOT Guns N' Roses, it's Axl Rose & his back-up band!!!

I understand that sometimes people just cannot work together. If Axl couldn't get along w/Slash, Duff, etc. then fine. But he should not use the GN'R name for this new project. I know he owns it & that he's not doing anything illegal by using the band name. However, I feel that he's being completely disrespectful to the former members by continuing as GN'R. He should just go solo or name this band something else. They may be talented but they are not GN'R & never will be.
