I saw the Doors this past Thursday nite.. the lineup with Ray, Robbie, Ian Astbury and some 2 other guys (drums/bass).
umm.. AMAZING pretty much sums up the show. no lies.
Robbie and Ray play like theyre still in their 20s. Ian was incredible. I never really noticed how much of an influence on Ian Jim Morrison was (from seeing him in the Cult) then when I saw him perform live with Robbie & Ray. He could be the reincarnation :D and that's not a bad thing.
He was all Ian, no cheap impersonations, although at times you'd swear Morrison was on the mic singing, but any of you who've ever seen the Cult or his other band Holy Barbarians live probably know that already. And if you haven't check out the Love Removal Machine or Wildflower videos from the Cult's Electric album, if you didn't notice it before, you'll see it now for sure.
They even played a new version of Crystal Ships.. same lyrics and tempo, just different music arrangements.. was very cool
The new song called Cop(something) sounded like a leftover track from the earlier Doors albums. VERY impressive. Ray's quote was "this song has some great lyrics and some great arrangements, once I learn them all it should be a pretty good tune"...
I can't remember the entire set, but I'll try...
Opening song was Roadhouse Blues
closing encore was Sould Kitchen (where they invited anyone who wanted to up on stage with them .. too bad we were in nosebleeds, they had over 300 people on stage).
other numbers;
Break On Through
Light My Fire
Crystal Ships
When The Music's Over
People Are Strange
Wild Child
Backdoor Man
Whiskey Bar
Love Me Two Times
-new song-
LA Woman
Like I said I can't remember them all, but if you get the chance to see them.. do it. It was hands down one of thebest performances I've EVER seen, and I've seen a lot.
They also said they were recording a new album that should be out by the end of the year, which I could only assume will be followed by another tour. YES, Ian will be singing. YES they will be using Morrison stuff that was never used before... lyrics, poetry.. on and on. This was told to all by Ray on stage.
My only worry...
no more Cult? The last album Beyond Good & Evil was one of the best Cult albums ever (my opinion). :(
