There's a potential Taco Bell spokesperson even more offbeat than the talking chihuahua. According to the Santa Barbara News-Press, Michael Jackson paid a visit a couple weeks ago to his local congressman's office and asked why there are no fast food joints in Solvang, the Danish-themed tourist town six miles south of Jackson's Neverland Ranch. The congressman, Elton Gallegly, wasn't there, but his staff pointed out that Solvang has a Subway sandwich shop. No thanks, said Jacko, who was disguised in a Spider-Man mask. ''I love Taco Bell.'' After signing autographs, Jackson and his bodyguards drove off to Buellton, Calif., where they were able to satisfy their chicken taco jones at a drive-through Taco Bell/Pizza Hut.
''It was interesting,'' said Gallegly's office director, Steve Lavagnino, of the visit. ''Elton laughed,'' he told the New York Post. ''He said, 'Everything's downhill. Who else can come in now?' It's very hard to top that visit. My first week in the office, and I get the most famous person on the planet.'' Yeah, Spider-Man's a pretty distinguished visitor.
