...no, nobody irked the hell out of me (at least none of the Xchangers :D), my upcoming absence is more of a technical kind...

First, this weekend is moving weekend...no big deal, but we want to move our household completely within 2 days, so time is pretty short to spend it online.

Second (and now we're coming to the point where I'm actually pretty much pissed off right now :grrr: ) - the provider of my DSL account is not able to move the access with us.
In short: I'm supposed to cancel and apply again for the connection (+ 100$), and it's not guaranteed that I actually get DSL within the next 6 months (!!!) but nonetheless have to pay for it. Cool, huh?
So I have cancelled DSL for now...I'll be back soon after we are done with the moving, but since I don't have a flatrate anymore, I have to restrain myself a little bit if I don't want to rack up a serious phone bill. :lol:

That bites! These companies have you over a barrel like that--if you want local access, your choices are super-limited. I hope that changes with time. Good luck on your move

Nah, it wasn't a tease (at all :lol: ), I was just surprised by the discrepancy between fiction (promised availability via online-check) and facts (ohh, I should have known better not to trust a former monopolist :mad: ). I still have ISDN, so my absence won't be for long - but I have to reduce my online time dramatically if I don't want to rack up monster phone bills. :cry:
At least, I have told the Telekom to inform me as soon as a free port is available - and then I will select a provider which is way cheaper than T-online (just found one...DSL, 5GB transfervolume/month free, for 15$/month - doesn't save me from spending the $100 though, see below)

Unfortunately, the Telekom is almost holding a monopol status in Germany when it comes to DSL - even if you choose another provider, it still requires the basics delivered by T-online (with the exception of a few areas in Germany which doesn't happen to be here where I live).

All in all...the stereo is out of the rack, all my CDs and Vinyl (1.300/300) are packed in (damn heavy) boxes, the book shelves are almost clean and the rooms are looking like Berlin 1945. :laugh:

And jen...there are no BMW's in our street, so you can relieve. ;)
