Do you remember getting laughed at or picked on for something you wore in the 80s...BUT then it became cool or popular?

I got laughed at a few times in grade school and jr. high but what I was wearing never became cool.
By the time I was in high school I gained a lot of my confidence.:ego: I had a really cool pair of black boots that laced up and had all these weird designs embellished on them. My friends would always tease me but it made me want to wear them even more. I still have those darn things just for memories sake!:p

I used to get the crap bugged out of me for wearing a fedora in high school. I wore a grey one my first two years of H.S., then bought a black one, which I wore for the last two years, and a couple of years thereafter.

By 11th grade, everyone was asking me where I got my hat. I wasn't about to tell them, though. *smirks*

I got made fun of a lot but I loved what I was wearing so much that giving it up would have meant just not being "me" anymore. I don't dance to the beat of a different drum--I bring my own drum!

I was "cool" in my own league...and I didn't gave a flying fluck on a rolling bagel what others thought of the style I was wearing.
Sometimes it was pretty scary...for examples, one day I had the idea to tear up my jeans (okay, they were already looking quite shabby ;)), and of course I've received the usual comments like "dressed up in a garbage can" and stuff. Not too long after this, it became hip...and I swear that I had worn a jeans full of zippers and buckles (also selfmade) before MJ introduced his famous "zipper dress"...

At least this style opened the door for me to all cool discos and pubs where others had to wait outside...underage or not. :D

I didnt care what anyone thought....

I am my own person and dont let others decide what "I WANNA WEAR",ETC......

People that cant accept you for this, well they aint worth your time (IMO)

When I was still in grade school, I had this awesome pair of Nike sneakers where the Nike sign would always change colours (I can't really describe it but it was in the early 80s). I wore them to school when we moved to Germany and got a lot of comments like 'got them in America, did you?' It was great because I *knew* the others couldn't get them as they weren't sold anywhere in Europe. Backpacks were another issue, the teachers made me leave them at home and one year later pow, they were everywhere.

I never got picked on when I was a kid, but as a teen it was relentless to the point that in Year8 I had over 90 days off school in one year because of it.

I can remember getting my eyebrow pierced and I got a lot of slack for that, but look now everyone bloody has one!! I started that trend you know!!!!! :)

I got a Jordache purse in 4th grade with my lunch money. All the other girls must have loved it, because no one had one until I came to school with it and by the next week they were everywhere.

I never really got picked on for my clothes - not to my face anyway. But you know how them bitches gossip when you're not around.

I never got teased. The crowd I hung with pretty much wore the same thing I did...Jeans, T-shirt, Studded Leather or denim jacket. You know...the typical metalhead wear of the day!

In my high school, you had the groups...sure...and they pretty much hung out with their own. Metalheads, Preppies, Jocks, geeks....you know.

I dressed pretty much normal, early darelic, kodiak steel toe work boots, levi's, tee shirts or kangeroo jackets (hoodies) and jean or leather jackets. The only negative comments were from my friends who said I had no ass, that it was lost in the war, blown off in the big one, WW II

Sometime in the early 80s, 83 or 84, I was the first girl to wear a miniskirt. I had such a cute outfit, white mini with red/white striped top and red/white little headband. (Back then I had good legs too! Only 115 lbs!) All the other girls were into the prep look, or the long Little House on the Prairie type peasant skirts. I was teased so badly I had to leave early.
A few years later everyone was wearing minis.

In 10th grade I had a cool pair of platform sneakers. They were mock ADIDAS style and I wore them so proudly, despite hearing "Those are the ugliest things I've ever seen!" I'm not sure... did platforms ever make a comeback?

I got teased for wearing my Metallica concert t-shirts until the black album came out and all of a sudden they were cool. That's when I decided not to wear the shirt anymore! Bastards!

Other than that, I generally didn't get picked on cuz if I did, I'd beat their ass. A boy in my class said not to mess with me cuz I hit like a gorilla! I didn't take any shit for what I wore. I was also an artist so naturally I dressed different anyway and people were just used to it.

Hmmm I got made fun of for wearing my old Pittsburgh Pirates hat, the painters cap with the yellow rings and stars around it.

I don't remember getting made fun of for what I wore directly.

Wait a sec... I do remember once when my parents bought me a pair of high-top shoes that looked like Reebok but were really generic. I never gave it much thought until my one friend teased me about it.

I set trends, baby! All the guys wanted to look like me, and all the girls just plain WANTED me. Ah, sweet memories of youth.:mwaha:
