We went to dinner tonight. We saw two men visiting..one was in cams. Ashton, my youngest daughter, was asking alot of questions and wanted to see his uniform. We went up to him and I told him that she was wondering if he was in the service. That she had been watching some things on the television and that she had said that she hoped that he would be safe if he had to "be at the war".

He turned to her and said, "Yes I am in the service. That was very nice for you to want me to be safe. I have something for you.." He took his unit's symbol (? I'm not sure exactly what he said it was) off of his coat and handed it to her. She told him "Thank you..keep your head low" He sort of chuckled and said.."Well..that's what they try to teach us to do" and smiled at her..he told my husband that he though that was nice for a 7 year old being so caring ... and thanked me for letting them know that we were thinking of them.

This pin is in the colors of gold, red, & blue. The words PARATI ET VOLENTES are on it.

2-123rd Field Artillery

Parati et Volentes (Ready and Willing). The shield is red for Artillery. The blue chevron alludes to the Infantry origin and the ability with which the regiment always obtained its objective. The three fleur-de-lis symbolize the three major engagements in World War I – Lucey Secotr (Lorraine, St. Mihiel offensive and the Meuse-Argonne offensive. The lamb is taken from the seal of Puerto Rico and signifies service during the Spanish-American War. Just thought you might want to know......

So true Brand :) Ashton had been holding that pin since he gave it to her..now she has put it into her Precious Moments porcelin box that she keeps on a shelf in her room. She wants to take it to school tomorrow.

I forgot to add something..he bent the tack pin thingys and put the clasps over the edges and told her he was doing that to return the favor..he wanted her to keep safe also and not stick her finger on them. :) Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Anthony!!!! OMG..that is so great of you to provide this info. I'm going to copy this down for Ashton. Thank you sooo much sweetie! :)

The girls couldn't decide if that was a dog or a horse...now I can tell them that it's a lamb. :)

I went in this morning to get her up for school and she was already awake..holding the pin and looking at it. :)

I explained to her and Tiffani what Anthony had typed it this thread what the symbols said. When I told them that it was a lamb..they still weren't sure so they got out the magnifying glass and said that it sure was a lamb! LOL!

That is a great story Jana!:D Ashton is so sweet to be caring enough to go up and talk to the guy. I'm glad she has a tangible memory of this event now too.:)
