OK, I think I am developing a pattern here. If you could pick your favorite vocalist, guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboardist (optional), who would they be and why? This is a question that requires some thought, so I will have to post my picks later.
I hope we get some interesting responses to this one.

Ronnie James Dio - Vocals
Tony MacAlpine - Guitar
Glen Tipton - Guitar
Geddy Lee - Bass/Keyboards
Neil Peart - Drums
Why? Because they are all in a league of their own. The cream of the crop if you will. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

Hey Not Man, those are great choices. I find it interesting that you would choose 2 guitarists and only one of them be from JP. BTW, I have heard of Tony MacAlpine, but am not familiar with his work. For you to choose him over thousands of others tells me he is great, where can I find some of his work?
You made some awesome choices. Here's mine:
Rob Halford-vocals (He is still amazing)
Steve Harris-bass (The backbone of Maiden)
Neil Peart-drums (The premier drummer)
Eddie Van Halen (I love his style)
It might seem like a strange mix but, separately these guys kick a**. Together, who knows?

Not bad choices yourself http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
I might be a little biased but when I heard Glen's solo material....HOLY F*CKIN' $HIT! That man can play. Have you heard it? I would highly recommend it if you don't.
Try checking Napster for some songs of his. I have seen some there. He (Tony) can not only play shredding solos but also take an acoustic and make it sound awesome.
Hmm? Another Peart fan. Very cool.
Steve Harris is probably my second favorite bass player.

I haven't heard Glenn's solo stuff yet. I'll check it and Tony MacAlpine out. Thanks for the info.

I would highly recommend Tony McAlpine to ANYBODY who has not heard him. His MAXIMUM SECURITY CD is in a word AWESOME. When he put together a band, he called it McAlpine, and they concentrated more on POP-metal type songs. ANYHOW, my band would be:
Guitar- Stanley Jordan (if I could convince him to only play rock)
Guitar#2 John Sykes
Bass Nikki Sixx (just kidding) Flea (although I hate RHCP, that MF can play!)
Keyboards (cant think of his name, played on the LAST IN LINE cd by DIO)
Vocalist Geoff Tate
Although I may have to actually pick Nikki Sixx for bass, because SOMEBODY would have to write some songs!
