The song Sara Smile was written by Darly Hall about his girlfriend Sara Allen - who also co-wrote many Hall & Oates Songs. They were together for almost 30 years!

Recently, B-Legit asked Daryl Hall to re-write Sara Smile and turn it into a rap song. He did and it's called Ghetto Smile - Hall also sings on it.

I knew that the song was about his Girlfriend, but I did not realize that they were together that long or that she helped co-writer Hall and Oats songs!! Very interesting :)

I heard this song this past weekend while eating at Hops. I guess those pesky rumors about Hall & Oates were unfounded after all! ;) :lol:

Unfounded indeed. Daryl was married for 2 years in the early 70's (before meeting Sara) and John is on his second marriage.

I really like the new song that Hall & Oates have out. I saw them performing on one of the morning shows a few weeks back and the guys look and sound great. It's nice to hear a new song by a group popular during the 80s playing on the radio these days! :thumb:

I agree - nice to hear REAL (80's) type music! I think since 1989 I haven't listened to the radio much. All my cd's got a good workout!

Simply Red have released a new song which contains a sample of a Hall and Oates Song!

Really? I like them too - I better check it out! I thought I heard a rumor that Hall was or did produce one of the Simply Red songs or cd's. Maybe it was that one you are talking about.

What happened to Daryl Hall and Sarah? You said they were together for 30 years. That's a long time to suddenly call it quits....

Another question, how old is Hall? 30 years, plus two years of marriage, you gotta figure he was at least 18 at the time of the marriage, so that's at least 50 right there! :eek: I never think of musicians getting older, it seems....

I read that he is 56. (McCartney in 60+)
On VH1 Behind The Music the interviewed Daryl and Sara seperately. It seems that Sara's sister Janna (who also co-wrote songs with them - Kiss On My List being one of them) was very close to Sara and Daryl. In 1993 she died of Leukemia and they never got over it. Apparently this was one of the reasons because Daryl mentioned the strain her illness and death put on them and the family. Sara said that the one thing she feels bad about (referring to their break up) was that she knows Daryl still loves her and she loves him but they can't seem to live together. He said they are still very close friends. I was boohooing over that. How sad for two people who love each other to have to separate! They made a striking couple. She seemed to be pretty tall as he is 6'2". He's blonde and she was dark haired.

I just found all this out recently when I found the H&O web site and one at Yahoo.

I have to say that it disappoints me greatly that a group the stature of Simply Red find it necessary to rip-off another song so blatantly from another band. I find it hard to believe that Hall had any input into this rubbish!

I mean, it's not even subtle. Having heard it for the first time last week I thought it was UTTER pants :hammer:

And all this from the group that wrote classics such as 'Moneys Too Tight'. Give it up Mick, you're just embarrassing yourself now.... :rolleyes:

I guess I'm suffering from hearing too many 80's songs getting the remix treatment at the moment. I agree with 80strivia insofar as remixes offering exposure for the decade, but the latest bunch of remixes are truly appalling :eek:

'Spirit In The Sky', 'Boys Of Summer' and 'Hey Little Girl' have all been put through the mincer. I don't mind if they do justice, but these efforts just make me wince. :mad:

WOW I just heard the song (Sunrise) and I am shocked and disappointed. That is definately a rip off of I Can't Go For That! It isn't even "almost like it" it IS IT!

Not only that, but it sonds awful. I read on the Simply Red BB that most people llike it. Yuck! I don't think the words even go with the beat/melody! Plus it is hard to even hear the words over the music.
