View Full Version : Hott 80s Thursday nights
djdaffy1227 2-26-03, 02:01 PM As you may have heard. I am now doing my Wednesday night show on Thursday nights on Flashbackradio.com It runs from 9-11 EST. A few differences, this one is not live, I will not be doing the countdown portion and it actually has a couple of songs that aren't 80's (weekly 90's song and New song from an 80's artist). It pretty much has the same features including spotlights, love classics, the forgotten 80's track, 80s nut newsletter, and the alternative track. This Thursday, Feb 27, is the first airing. I will be spotlighting the top R&B artists of the 80's in honor of black history month, Joshua Kadison and MC Hammer have the weekly 90's songs. John Hunter is the forgotten 80's track and Mojo Nixon has the alternative track. Requests can be made only they won't be played until the next week Hott80s@aol.com. I didn't plan on the new song from an 80's artist until after I had the show together, that feature will start next week. I'm a little excited and am looking forward to hearing it tomorrow. :)
BlueMolly2001 2-26-03, 04:53 PM So no chat tonight? What will I do? I've always looked forward to Wednesday nights. Oh well, I'll survive.
Roemello 2-26-03, 05:07 PM Wednesday's are still on  This is just something Daffy's doing in addition :)
I'll get my new bookmark set for flashbackradio.com.;)
DC Rebel 2-26-03, 05:44 PM Well, that should be good.
BlueMolly2001 2-26-03, 08:30 PM Can you listen to the show without paying, or do you have to sign up for their platinum service. I know you have to sign up to make requests, which kind of sucks in a way. I know they have to do this, because of the RIAA and other fees, but they should give you a choice like other places I'm part of.
I didn't pay anything Molly and I got it right on. I just clicked on my connection speed and it came on my RealPlayer. Listening right now 'til DJ's show comes on.
*edit*: I just checked out the site a little more and it says for platinum service you get:
Unlimited 24/7 Access - Non-subscribers will be limited will only be able to listen for 15 minutes at a time.

So, it sounds like to listen to all of DJ's Thursday show we'll need to pay.
Greenway88 2-27-03, 09:02 AM abc, give it a try tonight, I think the page you got that info from is a little outdated. I'll check into it.
djdaffy1227 2-27-03, 11:29 AM Before I was a member, I could listen for longer than 15 minutes, you should be fine. :)
Greenway88 2-27-03, 03:59 PM I confirmed with Flashback, they are no longer limiting those listening to the free streams to 15 minutes at a time.
BlueMolly2001 2-27-03, 09:24 PM Good, because I want to hear my DJ for an unlimited amount. I don't have the money right now to pay for the service. If I did I would, because Flashbackradio is great. I'm using Winamp right now. It's buffering a lot, but it's because of the traffic congestion.
BTW, is there a chat?
I totally spaced on the new show last night. I really wanted to check it out. Were people in chat listening to the show?
I have been listening to Flashback radio 'tho and I realize now it is not limited to 15 minutes. The music selection is great too.:)
djdaffy1227 2-28-03, 01:48 PM A few of us were listening in the chat last night. Would of loved to have seen you last night, aside from my dreams ;)
Rhelawen 2-28-03, 02:24 PM I was listening to the show :):thumb: I didn't chat much, tho...was too busy trying to remember the IRC commands to register my nick, etc. I will be a little more talkative next time
djdaffy1227 3-06-03, 01:24 PM Tonight on the show will be doubleshots...gee, that sounds familiar :D The weekly 90's song is by Michael W Smith and the new song by an 80's artist is by Erasure. You don't have to be a member of flashbackradio.com to listen :) I'll try to get to the chatroom tonight....
BlueMolly2001 3-06-03, 05:43 PM Is there anyway to listen the show without Winamp or that Radio Tuner? Last week, I tried both and it kept on breaking up and buffering like crazy. I wish there was just a way to listen with Windows Media Player. I'll be in chat tonight though. Last week I was in a couple of times, but noone was there? When do people usually show up?
Greenway88 3-07-03, 09:49 AM BlueMolly, I listen on Real Player. I've never tried it, but I think you could probably use Media Player if you did a right click on the listen link, copy the shortcut and paste it into Media Player.
BTW DJ, the parts I heard were pretty darn good. MW Smith was a great choice for the 90's song and I think that was the first time I've heard Northern Lights. I didn't hear about Kraftwerk almost making the RNR Hall of Fame until last night. Kudos to you!!
djdaffy1227 3-07-03, 11:50 AM I tried all night and couldn't get Flashback to play. I missed the whole show  I can't figure out what happened, I've never had a problem before....I'm sorry for my sudden departure from the chat room, I was just getting really upset.
I'm glad you liked it Greenway! :) I will do doubleshots every first Thursday of the month. You must not have listened long enough to hear Erasure's version of "Solsbury Hill". I figured you would have mentioned it if you did :D Thanks to everyone who listened.
Greenway88 3-13-03, 05:21 PM No info on tonight's show? C'mon DJ. :tsk:
Flashback Radio thinks the show is so nice, now they're playing it twice. New time tonight, 7pm EST, 4 PST. And a replay Sunday at 3pm EST, noon PST. I hope you can listen this time DJ.
djdaffy1227 3-13-03, 08:15 PM That started tonight????? I am so busy I just plum forgot to post here, sorry.
Well as you can hear, Irish artists in the spotlight, Snap with the 90's song and Bruce Springsteen has the new song from an 80's artist, Starship is the forgotten 80's song and Camper Van Beethoven is the alternative track,
BlueMolly2001 3-13-03, 08:21 PM I'm sorry to sound a bit dense, but the show is now at 7pm? Is there a chat? Just curious and a bit  .
djdaffy1227 3-13-03, 08:23 PM It is now on at 7:00pm EST, starting right now! It is half over already! DOH! Nobody is in the chat because I didn't say anything about the time change. I thought it was next week.
I'm listening to the show right now.:) There's too much hubbub going on at my house right now to be in chat anyways.
Roemello 3-13-03, 10:52 PM Too early for my blood....ah well...I always got Wednesdays :D
Rhelawen 3-13-03, 10:55 PM Too early for me too. :( Thursdays are always so busy for me.
djdaffy1227 3-16-03, 11:06 AM Don't forget...the replay of last Thursday's show is today at 3:00 EST. I will be at work but will probably have it on.
djdaffy1227 3-16-03, 03:41 PM OK, I just tuned in and for some reason the show isn't on. ??????
djdaffy1227 3-20-03, 10:28 AM I don't want Greenway tsking me again
Here is a preveiw of tonight's show. Spotlight is on animal songs. The weekly 90's song is a song about animals by Ugly Kid Joe. The forgotten 80's track is the Pointer Sisters. I have a new song by Queen Latifah lined up and the alternative track is by Fun Fun.
The show is on at 7:00pm EST. I'll be at work tonight but will try to join the chat.
Greenway88 3-21-03, 04:11 PM Dang it, with the start of the NCAA tournament and war coverage I forgot about the show. And I missed Fun Fun !!!!! Geez, that will teach me to miss a week of your show DJ.
djdaffy1227 3-21-03, 04:26 PM Greenway, don't forget the replay on Sunday, your chance to hear it again. 12:00 noon PST, 3:00 pm EST. :D
djdaffy1227 3-27-03, 10:19 AM OK, the show is no longer Thursday nights, it is on Thursday afternoon. 1:00pm PST/4:00pm EST this is a much better time period as more people listen at this time.
This week's show is an American edition. All songs are about the USA. :)
PS: If you are interested in hearing the song "American memories" by Shamus M'Cool, I will be playing it.
Rhelawen 3-27-03, 10:28 AM Kewl, I can listen to it at work, then. :D:thumb:
Just wanted to tell you I really enjoyed the show today.:) I like the new time slot.
djdaffy1227 3-28-03, 09:39 AM I'm thinking I'd rather have it on in the original time slot. I got some not so good feedback on the show, saying I played too much country and too many obscure song. I thought that that is what they wanted (????) If they want the same old same old they can listen to Backtrax USA, The Amazin' 80's or any other syndicated 80's show. That's one of the things I pride myself in, is not being the same old same old. The problem with the country music was my own fault actually, I tried to do a special American edition of the show, most of the patriotic music is country. Even though all but 2 of the country songs I played hit the pop charts. I think folks were just upset a little that the show ran in a time where they normally make requests and don't have a DJ talking inbetween songs. They haven't heard a regular edition of the show, now I'm second guessing wether I should do the comedy version of the show on Flashback. I'd hate to give them two specials in a row without ever hearing the regular version.
Sorry, just venting.
Greenway88 3-28-03, 09:53 AM That's too bad you're getting negative feedback. I really enjoyed what I heard, even the Oak Ridge Boys (My baby is American Made).
djdaffy1227 3-28-03, 10:13 AM Well Greenway, I admit I played a lot of country this past show, that was my fault. I just can't believe I am being told I play too much obscure music (????) To quote the homepage of Flashbackradio "If it charted, we'll play it". (Mind you I know this isn't Aaron's veiw of the show). I guess I'm taking it the wrong way, one or two people complaining is a very small percent of the listening audience. Those who enjoyed it are less apt to say anything.
I'm done venting now
Should I still do a comedy special next week? (I definitely am on my Wednesday show)
Is there somewhere on Flashback's website where we can comment positively about your show? We can outnumber the whiny complainers there.;) I don't get the "too many obscure songs" complaint. That's part of the fun listening to songs that aren't over-played.
I think you should do your comedy show there too. All your specials are well-timed and pertinent.:) If those who complained keep listening to you they'll figure out your show eventually. Don't let them dictate your show.:grrr:
djdaffy1227 3-28-03, 02:18 PM ABC my love,
you can send them your thoughts:

Greenway88 3-28-03, 02:57 PM Daffy,
Perhaps you could have Flashback Radio put on their front page an announcement regarding the content of each show before it airs, especially on weeks where you have a specialty show. I'm pretty sure you'll get a couple of negative comments about the comedy show, but there will be plenty of people that enjoy it as well. I know I'm looking forward to it.
wavemaster 3-28-03, 06:33 PM I had tried to listen to your Flashback show, DJ, but...my Media player seems not to be capable of handling the stream format, and before I'm installing WinAmp or that Flashback player, I'll rather do the Van Gogh and cut off my ears.
