View Full Version : Sometimes pictures are better than words... Pagan 2-04-03, 02:22 PM Found this in an email today.... Slayergrrl 2-04-03, 02:35 PM Wow.. That was good. There was one in my local paper that had the astronauts shaking the hands of the NYFD in heaven.. I cut it out and put it on my bulletin board. Very moving. Darkmatter 2-04-03, 02:38 PM Great find, Pagan LOSTNTHE80S 2-04-03, 03:36 PM As the president said..."They reached the stars and beyond." Thanks for posting the picture Alan. Slayer..I'd like to see the picture you were talking about.. would you be able to put it on here too? Thanks :) Slayergrrl 2-04-03, 03:56 PM Originally posted by LOSTNTHE80S Slayer..I'd like to see the picture you were talking about.. would you be able to put it on here too? Thanks :) The name of the Artisit is Jerry Holbert.. You can find his stuff at www.comics.com.. It wasn't on the site today. Maybe tomorrow? Taz 2-04-03, 04:10 PM Thanks for posting that Pal. ;) Rhelawen 2-04-03, 04:22 PM Very nice, Pagan. Thanks for sharing that. RetroMan 2-04-03, 05:43 PM I still can't believe it happened. It's just terrible. Everyone is talking about it and every night on the news there is a new theory of how and what went wrong. I would rather look at the picture that Pagan posted, rather than seeing that fireball streaking across the sky footage they keep showing all the time :( Shortie Blonde 2-04-03, 05:49 PM That's cute :D Not Man 2-04-03, 07:31 PM That is a great pic, although it isn't cute it is very touching. Thanks for posting it Pagan :) Jazzmyn 2-04-03, 07:44 PM Great pic Pagan. Thanks for posting it. Sarg 2-04-03, 10:03 PM Nice find, Pagan. It's the way we'd like to think of the crew of that tragedy. LOSTNTHE80S 2-04-03, 10:06 PM Cute Shortie? I don't think it was intended to be "cute"...I felt that lump in my throat when I saw it. Just like the lump that was there when I saw a cartoon at xmas time (2001) __________________ ValJ 2-04-03, 10:46 PM It is a very touching picture. This disaster reminds me of something I heard once, "Courage isn't the absence of fear, courage is being afraid and doing what needs to be done anyway." They knew the risks, but wanted to do what few of us will ever do. Bless them. Shortie, before long everyone is going to start ignoring your posts. Maybe when no one responds to you and you end up talking to yourself here you'll realize people are dismissing the 'she's young' argument in favor of the 'she's self-centered and only does this crap for attention' argument. Because other than that, I can't see why a rational, warm-hearted human being would come into a memorial thread and deliberately say something to take the attention away from where it belongs just so it focuses back on themselves. 80sTrivia 2-04-03, 10:49 PM Really sums up the way I feel about the tragedy. I particularly liked that the artist added the Star of David, representing Israeli astronaut Illan Ramon... :( TopCat 2-05-03, 05:35 AM Originally posted by 80sTrivia Really sums up the way I feel about the tragedy. I particularly liked that the artist added the Star of David, representing Israeli astronaut Illan Ramon... :( I noticed that also. I don't watch much on TV about this because of all the speculation. It was a sad day in history but a day of bravery and unselfishness on the part of the astronauts. They gave their life for knowledge. Their careers will inspire so many young people. :) Pagan 2-05-03, 09:40 AM Originally posted by Shortie Blonde That's cute :D Ya know Shortie.....I'm beginning to think you don't possess that trigger that most people have in their brain that tells them "Hey, maybe I shouldn't trivialize something that effects alot of people deeply by saying something REALLY stupid." This is not something that is "cute". Is the Titanic cute? The Hindenburg? World War II? For Goddess' sake, get a clue before you say something that offends a shitload of people, will you? I apologize to the rest of the Xchangers for being harsh, but dammit, this is ridiculous. Taz 2-05-03, 09:58 AM Pal.... you're wasting your time trying to explain to this kid about things in life. That's all she is... a KID and you just gotta keep telling her to grow up and maybe one of these days she might. Some people have to learn the hard way and she will get hers someday.... guaranteed. Val, you hit the bullseye on the observation with this "kid". ;) LOSTNTHE80S 2-05-03, 10:03 AM Pagan..no need to apologize at all. Val...thank you too. ***I had typed a LONG message in response to her "That's cute" comment..then I thought I'd better wait and see what some of the mods had to say about it...so I back spaced...ALOT! DC Rebel 2-05-03, 10:05 AM Well Pagan, thanks for the picture. Shortie Blonde 2-05-03, 04:21 PM Originally posted by ValJ Shortie, before long everyone is going to start ignoring your posts. Wow. Am I scared or what. NOT.  I'm ignoring all bitching on after this. My opinion is my opinion. You don't like it, put up with it. You can't change me. No one can. Some little speech means nothing to me. Maybe you just don't understand my wording. Roemello 2-05-03, 04:28 PM No one's gonna have to put up with anything, because the next time you post an 'opinion' that you know right well is gonna get on people's nerves, it's going to be deleted on the spot. This forum is a place for people to relax and have fun, not be annoyed. No one's trying to change you, but you have to learn that there's a time to speak and a time to zip it....this is an instance of the latter... Shortie Blonde 2-05-03, 04:48 PM I honestly never thought my "cute" would get on anyone's nerve's, Roem, or even my comment on the Columbia thread. Other ones have been bad, but that wasn't in my mind. LOSTNTHE80S 2-05-03, 04:51 PM I personally think it was a wrong choice of words also, Shortie..but did you have to add the smiley to it? Slayergrrl 2-05-03, 04:53 PM "Cute" isn't a word one would associate with a disaster such as the shuttle blowing up upon re-entry. Thats why everyone is upset. Shortie Blonde 2-05-03, 04:53 PM Originally posted by LOSTNTHE80S I personally think it was a wrong choice of words also, Shortie..but did you have to add the smiley to it? That was like shedding light on the subject, ya know? Ted Nugent 2-05-03, 05:37 PM I don't know why I'm even saying anything here...... But, I completely see why anyone would be offended by the "cute" statement. I think all of you can remember being younger and not always choosing the right words, especially on a sensitive subject like this one. Some people (myself included) have trouble wording things. Or even have absolutely zero regard for anyone else's feelings (Again, I speak of myself). I'm not saying Shortie doesn't care about anyone's feelings, because I can't speak for her but no matter what you say to her, she is NOT going to grow up over night or change. Everyone grows up at their own pace and they don't always take what others, older than them, say into consideration. I know Shortie is gonna think I'm against her, but I'm not. I just felt like throwing my 2 cents in. Maybe it'll help you all to understand her, a little more. Pagan 2-05-03, 06:02 PM Originally posted by Shortie Blonde Wow. Some little speech means nothing to me. Maybe you just don't understand my wording. ...and you wonder why you're an outcast. I will hold my tongue on this one for the sake of peace on the board, but I could give you an opinion about why Dan ignores you that would make your toes curl. Grow up... Tydestra 2-05-03, 07:57 PM My 2 cents... Common Sense Knowing when to bite your tongue Not biting off more than you can chew And knowing when to pick your battles sassy 2-05-03, 08:38 PM Thanks for posting that Pagan I printed that out and I am going to pass it around at work. Sometimes pictures are better then words. I showed that great picture to my 15 year old boy and he was speechless. He would have never said that about something so tragic. Maybe there is hope for our youth. abcmcd 2-05-03, 11:51 PM Very cool picture Pagan. Thanks for sharing it with us.:( amk27 2-06-03, 12:44 AM Very cool Pagan, says everything I believe in. As for the youngster......sad, very sad and have to say Shortie I am very disapointed in your response. LOSTNTHE80S 2-06-03, 07:32 AM Isn't it creative what these artists can think of? A simple drawing can say so much. Around xmas 2001...there was an animation (which still hangs on my fridge) It had a mother and liitle boy looking out the window at a dark sky with the christmas star shining brightly..in the drawing also was a framed picture on a table... of the little boy and his father laughing..the father had on a firefighters uniform. That just gave me the chills. LOSTNTHE80S 2-06-03, 09:18 AM It gave me the chills too. When I find myself at wits end, kids are fighting, it's been a hectic day, or I want to scream and run away..I look at that picture and it reminds me of just how lucky I am. :) Tinajo 2-06-03, 09:27 AM Originally posted by Milani I showed that great picture to my 15 year old boy and he was speechless. He would have never said that about something so tragic. Maybe there is hope for our youth. Milani.. you're raising a fine son... I think that's so touching when someone young like that can see that words sometimes aren't enough to express our feelings. LOSTNTHE80S 2-06-03, 09:55 AM My daughters were looking at the front page of the paper on Sun. Tiffani told her younger sister that "those were the heros on the rocket ship".. Tiff also noticed that some of the flags were NOT at half mast (even though it's the fed flags that are supposed to be but these were ones in people's yards, etc..) and she sounded just like my grandma tsking "Well will you just look at that! They don't have any respect for the astronauts (sp?)"...She'll be 9 next week :) <<< ( This isn't supposed to be a bad smiley on the situation..my point is that the SOME of today's KIDS are seeing these tragedies ..are learning the hard way about respect but I think it's great that they are..maybe when they grow up..into a new generation of leaders..hopefully, it will be better than currently. sassy 2-06-03, 07:43 PM Milani.. you're raising a fine son Thank you very much Tinajo I needed to hear that. Sometimes I wonder if I am raising them right. But then I see some of the other young people out in the world and it makes me realize how wonderful my boys are and how soft hearted they really are. It is sad to see some of these young kids now adays they don't take anything serious  Iluvthe80s 2-06-03, 10:34 PM Very touching pic, Pagan. |
