Karen Carpenter is my favorite female vocalist of all time! We lost a beautiful voice when she died :( Listen to the feeling in songs like "Rainy days and Mondays" and "Close to you" or the fabulous rendition of "Ticket to ride" (I like it just as much as the Beatles version) and how playful she could be like "Calling occupants". I think I'll go listen to the greatest hits right now :)

I remember hearing Karen around the time she died when she came out with a minor hit "Make believe it's your first time". I didn't really know anything about the Carpenters back then, and when I heard that on the radio, I thought she had the most beautiful singing voice I'd ever heard.
