On the back of the 80's musical revival that is going on (at least here in my part of the UK) my local Radio Station CAT FM now plays 6 hours of 'awesome 80's' every Saturday night!

In addition to this, there is 1 hour of awesome 80's every day, plus mixed music from the 70's to the present day.

The fact that music from the 80's now occupies one of the most popular evening slots is testiment to the fact that the 80's are well and truly back on the map

How good is your local Radio Station in comparison?

There's one station here in Buffalo called, STAR 102.5 which plays a lot of 80s music. They used to have a night which they played nothing but late 70s and early/mid 80s music. I'm not sure if they still have that show or not.
Chopper is that station available on the internet? It sounds like a cool station. I love listening to radio stations from the UK.

Hiya Molly!

Actually, I'm living in the dark ages again...it used to be CAT FM but they changed it to STAR FM - d'oh!!

Anyway, you can indeed listen in at http://www.star1075.co.uk/

The sad thing here in Austin, Texas is that it seems like there is less 80's than there was a year ago. We used to have an all 80's station that decided to become a alternative ('90's & 00's mainly)rock station. We did have a mix station that played a 80's lunch thing, but now they have changed it to an request hour instead. The only two things left now are: 101X's Flashback Lunch (which plays New Wave, Punk, and anything Alternative from the 80's) and The Eighties at 8 on our local classic rock station Z102 (which plays hair bands of the 80's in this time slot).

I don't listen to the radio much since our 80's station is gone. In the car though, I can pick up this one station from San Antonio called Majic 105.3 (they play a mix of 80's, 90's, and today, but it is mostly 80s). I really miss my 80's station. :(

Two words: it sucks...

Apart from the the fact that Germany does not know the "local radio" except for the public station located in each larger town, the FM is a kind of wasteland when it comes to 80s music.

Not that they don't play 80s stuff...but all the songs they play (and probably know) are those you have heard for an oh-so-many-thousand times and fits on two DCD compilations.

On the other hand, some TV stations are pretty active with reruns of 80s music (and recently action) shows - I have already taped about 40 hours of music videos, and the VCR is programmed again (I think I need a digital VCR soon)...

Just about all of the pop/rock stations where I live devote special blocks of programing to exclusively play 80s music. One of the soft rock stations does "Totally Awesome 80s" weekends, beginning on Friday nights at 8 PM and lasting until Sunday evening. Charleston doesn't have an all-80s station as of yet, but I remain hopeful! :thumb:

I don't listen to the radio a lot...so I don't really know. Like, one of them plays 80s once in a while and they also have Backtracks USA on it.

Classic Hits radio stations are pretty big here in New Zealand, in fact they seem to be the most popular. We have one radio station that is soley dedicated to 70s, 80s and the best most recent mainstream hits. :thumb: (no 90s!!)

We have a classic rock station, not just the 80's, I've noticed they changed it to classic rock and "todays best rock" so they could add in some modern music. If your looking for pure 80's it's not good, but compared to most of the radio stations it's the best we have

***on a side note, when i'm driving back from my girlfriends on Sunday's , I listen to a local station that has an 80's hour and the beginning of the show sounds alot like the beginning of DJ Daffy's***

Hehehe, nice plug of your show, DJ. :p

I forgot about a show here in Buffalo called, "Decades". It's on a local college radio station. The DJ plays a lot of 80s stuff.
Also, on that same radio station on Sunday nights from midnight to 3am they have a show called "Manchester at Midnight", which is all British, but she plays a lot of 80s artists. She plays a lot of Billy Bragg.

We have an 80's show every friday night on MIX 98.5.. I listen to it while i'm getting ready to go out. The same station also did an 80's contest to pick the best song from the 80's.. Every song I voted for lost. :( We also have Star 93.7 that plays some 80's dance stuff.. Other than that Boston Radio is terrible.

Being a new part of the Digital Radio revolution (http://www.ukdigitalradio.com) I have a great pick of stations that do indeed play 80's stuff.

I mentioned Planet Rock before (http://www.planetrock.com) which plays some great rock tunes from the 80's, as well as various other stations, but no dedicated DR station playing 80's all the time. Never mind!!!

6 Music (http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music) is very good for live sets from 80's acts, I remember waking up one Sunday morning to a live set from The Pretenders.

I could mention others, but they are too numerous to mention.

It was good until last week. WNEW used to have a show on Friday & Saturday night with DJ Eddie Trunk, and they played all kinds of 80's metal and hard rock. Even stuff you'd never hear like E'Nuff's E'Nuff and all the second tier hair metal bands.

Welllllllllll.....the suits at 'NEW decided to turn to a rap format for the station, and ditched Eddie. They couldn't even spare him the lousy 8 hours each week, even though he was getting good ratings! Thank the Goddess that he's syndicated, and he'll be back on another station in NY soon enough.

This was a travesty to begin with, since I was a llittle kid WNEW was the "home of rock & roll" in NY. For them to switch to rap is horrible. For the first time since I learned to drive 24 years ago, I have removed WNEW from my car radio's presets. :bigcry:

We used to have a station locally that played nothing but 80s!

But they went out and it was replaced by sports :(

This area sucks where I am,there is one college station thay plays mostly 80s but i dont listen BECAUSE THEY PLAY THE SONGS SLIGHTLY FAST AND THEY SOUND LIKE CRAP!!!!!!

I called the program director one day and told him and he said "It sounds better that way" .. Oh ok,i didnt know the aritsts wanted thier songs played FASTER than they were meant to be played.

STUPID MORON!
