Didja know that lead singer Mike Score and bass player Frank Maudsley were hairdressers in Liverpool, England?
In 1983 AFOS won a grammy for Best Rock Instrumental. (A song called D.N.A.)
They got their name from a book. "Jonathon Livingston Seagull" by author Richard Bach.
The band used to rehearse above Mike's hair salon until they were signed to a recording contract.
The Playstation 2 game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, features music (namely, "I Ran") by AFOS.
What do you know about this band?

A Flock Of Seagulls released their debut EP on Cocteau Records early in 1981, and while the record failed to chart, its lead track "Telecommunication" became an underground hit in Eurodisco and new wave clubs.
Mike Score and a new lineup of the band continues to tour worldwide.

Wasn't "I ran" the second or third video that MTV ever played?
As a joke, I named one of my bands in high school "A herd of oxen" after "A flock of Seagulls" got big.
Go back and listen to "Space Age Love Song" it really holds up, good song, all their stuff is on Kazaa.
The guitar player and bass player used then discontinued (but now reissued) Gibson Firebirds.

Always thought it very odd that 'Wishing' charted higher than 'I Ran' in the UK.
Wishing to me was as dull as dishwater, whereas 'I Ran' was one heck of a tune!
I think this was the time where the UK charts went rather silly, with things like Roland Rat's 'Rat Rapping' and stuff like Hayzee Fantazee charting in the top 10!

There is an urban legend about the Guitarist that quit before "who's that Girl (she's got it)"
Apparently he wanted to make a large cash withdrawal from a high street bank in liverpool to buy a Classic Car he saw for sale, the bank turned him down because the did not permit that much to be taken out as cash without a clearing period (policy you see). He then demanded to close the account, The manager nearly had appolexy when he saw the gutarist withdraw a cool£million out of his bank :thumb:
Did you know that guitarplayer Paul Reynolds was only 14 years old when he became a band member of A Flock of Seagulls. He bought afther he left A Flock of Seagulls the salon, as a momento. He was the first one to quit AFOS because he was to young to live the life of a rockstar. Now he is playing Jazz.

In the 1999 (?) movie The Suburbans, a movie about a fictional 80's band reuniting, Flock of Seagulls appear as themselves at the end :thumb:
