View Full Version : Original Kiss over before the tour ends?
Rumors have been flying around about both Peter Chris and Ace Frehley not being happy about their share of the profits from this farewell tour. Well, the worst has happened, they could not come to an agreement with Peter Chris. It is official that he is not going to be on the Japanese and Australian legs of the Kiss Farewell Tour. Eric Singer (the last drummer for Kiss) is back in. And he will be wearing makeup. The million dollar question is what kind of makeup will he be wearing? There is still a chance that they could come to an agreement with Peter Chris in time for these shows or for their finale in New York City. But, for now he is out and Eric Singer is in! Ace Frehley is still planning on completing the tour.

I just read this myself on KISS Online. This absolutely SUCKS! Singer's got short hair now. He'll look ridiculous in makeup unless they gave him a wig...which would be lame. Besides...it ain't KISS without the four originals! A sad day indeed...and a rip-off to the fans. I hope they can come to some agreement for the final shows in NY.
OH MY GOD!!!
:big cry: I figured it would be ACE that they would replace before the end of the tour... Either way.. it makes me sad http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif at least I got the chance to see them a few times on this tour with Peter..

You know.. they are pissing off alot of people right now.. Alot of the KISS Army are really mad, too...
You should check out the messages that alot of people posted after the comment that Peter was being replaced by Singer on the KISSONLINE site...
I think if they can't come to an agreement with Peter... they should just quit now... no use insulting the fans now... They certainly are going out with a bang.. but not on a positive note...
Gene once said in an interview "It's not easy being a KISS fan"... Man.. in alot of ways he was right.

You got that right Tina! I think if I hear Gene say "It's all for the fans" one more time I'll puke! If it's all for the fans Gene, why are you charging $85 a ticket? If it's all for the fans, why aren't you patching things up with Peter? I agree with you, end the tour now. It would be a travesty to put Eric in Peter's makeup & costume. That MUST be what they're doing. I can't see them creating a new character for a farewell tour!
I feel sorry for all those who didn't get the chance to see them together and for those who paid a ton of money over in Australia for a ticket only to have to see them with Singer... (I saw one post from an Aussie guy who said he paid $2000 for a ticket and says that he thinks they should cancel the show and give everyone their money back)... That will never happen... KISS will take their money anyway...
Amazing that they would do this to the fans just before the end of their careers.. I would think you would want to be remembered in a good way and not to have everyone mad at you...
I have no idea what they would do about Singer's makeup... some rumors have stated that he may take Eric Carr's old identity... who knows? It's gonna suck either way. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif
Hopefully, Pagan.. they will get their act together for the last show at Madison Square Garden... I think I would still go even if Singer IS playing that show.. just out of curiousity's sake...

Growing up, KISS was my all time favorite band. What guy who is a rock fan, and around my age (30) never played air guitar along with KISS ALIVE 2? Then as a kid, I got tickets to see them on the ANIMALIZE tour. Mom would not let me go. I spent $24.00 on a ticket (big cash to a teenager in 84 or 85) and was not allowed to go. Then I got tickets to the ASYLUM tour, but our car broke down on the way to the show. Then, during the CRAZY NIGHTS tour, I finally got to see my Idols play. (with TEd Nugent even!) Then a few years later, I got to see KISS on the REVENGE tour, with SINGER drumming. His drumming blew me away! He was as intense as Eric Carr was, but thier was something about his drumming that always was cool to me.
Then in 96 I got to see my dream come true, the ORIGINAL KISS, with all members, in MAKEUP! and COSTUMES! Great show, but the guitar work was sloppy, and Peter Criss was slow behind the kit, out of time a lot. Although it was my all time favorite concert (until I saw PRINCE) it was musically one of the worst.
So if Singer is touring, more power to them, they will SOUND better, and I hope he is made up to look like CARR.
But they have been ripping thier fans for a decade now, so nothing suprises me anymore. Gene and Paul are worth 1/2 a billion each, easily, so they are just cashing in.
And whoever said that about singer wearing a wig, why doesnt the fact that Paul has worn one for 10-15 years bother you?
Ron
------------------
If it weren't for my horse, I would have never spent that year in college!
Singer made up to look like Carr? Are you people losing your minds??? That would be the worst insult EVER! Eric Carr was one of a kind, and his identity is his...ALONE. I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Eric backstage at an Anthrax/Ozzy show in the late 80's, and he was every bit as nice and as unassuming as you hear everyone say. He talked with my friend an I for at least 10 minutes, and there wasn't a hint of ego about him. I was devastated when he died.
Then, while recording the LIVESAY cd last year, I found out that our producer knew Eric very well. I asked him about Eric, and he took me into the back room of the studio, where he had Eric's "Hot In The Shade" drum kit. I actually got to touch the drums.
To top everything off, while visiting my brother in Fishkill, NY, the wife & I stopped at a little flea market up there. There was a woman with a booth LOADED with KISS stuff, and most noticably, Eric stuff. I told her she had a great selection of Eric memorabilia, and she said "I should, he was my son." I was completely floored. I talked to her for awhile, then she said "You remind me of Eric. Not alot of people look like you anymore." Then she started getting teary eyed. My wife & I felt so bad I think we bought a couple of hundred bucks worth of stuff! When I bought the video "Tale of the Fox", sure enough, that really was her!
But enough rambling. Eric Singer shouldn't wear ANYONE's costume or makeup. These things were the identity of the original wearer, and should stay that way. Could you see anyone else in Gene's dragon boots? I didn't think so....
Tina, I'll be at the last show anyway myself. I never got to go in full costume, and I'll kick myself if they retire and I don't, so Pagan/Paul will be there....
Jasper, I will agree that Peter is NOT the best drummer...I have had the chance to see them quite a few times in full make-up since reunion (3 times on reunion tour, once for Psycho Circus, and 3 times now for Farewell)... each time Peter has struggled to make it through.. but he uses triggers for his drums, so the sound is always great no matter the force he uses to hit the drums... and let's face it... he is one of the origional four.. which is what this tour advertises anyway... I also saw them for Animalize, Hot in the Shade and then the Revenge tour as well and I agree that Singer blew my mind... but to me, that KISS is over with (I mean.. the style of the songs were extremly different in my opinion) and the make-up was not on at that time... to me... this is a different KISS.. make up and all.. and Eric Singer does not belong on this tour.
Pagan.. I seriously doubt that they would insult the fans even MORE than they already have by putting him in Carr's costume.. (just a rumor that I read on KISSOnline posts).. but you know what? You never know with those guys anymore.
and Jasper... I think what Pagan was saying about Singer wearing a wig being silly is pretty valid... Paul has wore a wig for the longest time.. it is just part of "HIS" costume.. but dressing Eric up in a wig and someone else's costume is pretty pathetic.

OK I get your point about the wig Tinajo, but my point was that you certainly would not want him in Criss makeup, and he never had his own. I would like to see him in Carr's makeup as a tribute to him, not trying to copy him. If I am not mistaken, he passed away the same day or week as Freddy Murcury. I know I cried for a while when it happened. My parents thought I was silly to cry about a guy I never met, but to me it was like an old friend died. The drum solo he did during the CRAZY NIGHTS tour was fabulous, and showed how great he truely was. Again, I meant no disrespect to him when I suggested he wear the Carr makeup. Perhaps the "birdman" costume they had designed for Carr initially would make an appearance.
Ron
------------------
If it weren't for my horse, I would have never spent that year in college!
I guess the whole point of Carr's makeup & costume stems from looking at the big picture. Carr joined KISS when they were still in their makeup stage, and was accepted into the band by the fans. When you think about it, he was KISS' drummer for a longer period of time than Peter was. Singer was a replacement for one album (2 if you count "Karnival of Souls") and one tour. I think if Carr was still alive, they could replace Peter for this tour with Carr and no one would really mind. Singer though, when you look at his career, is a mercenary drummer. A hired hand, if you will. I don't think he was ever really considered part of the KISS family.
I first saw KISS on New Year's Eve 1975 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY. I've seen them every tour since. When it was the original four, the electricity before they took the stage was so incredible. You sat there freaking out looking at your friends saying "It's KISS man...it's f@#king KISS!!!" I was at Carr's debut show at the Palladium in Manhattan, and it still had that feeling. Then Ace left, and the feeling went away a little. It was like "Yeah, it's KISS...but not the same." The makeup came off, guitarists came and went, and KISS became just another band, although a VERY good one. The majesty was gone. When the house lights went down it was great, but not like it was in the beginning.
Then came the reunion tour, and the electricity was back. I saw them at Madison Square Garden, and the place was ALIVE! People were losing their minds, booing the opening act, chanting for KISS. When they came out onstage I was 15 years old again, screaming like a lunatic...something I don't really do at concerts anymore!
I guess my point is this, nothing is ever as good as the original. KISS will always be Ace, Paul, Peter & Gene. To continue this tour with someone else is an insult to the fans. They should do whatever it takes to keep Peter in the fold, or end the tour now.
Just My Two Cents,
Pagan

New news, guys... I'm not sure if any of you have read it yet... it does alot of explaining about whats going on... statements from Criss, Simmons, and Stanley.. and by the way... Singer WILL be wearing Peter's make-up and costume...
Official Statement From Peter Criss
From:KISS ASYLUM
KissAsylum.com was contacted by a representative of Peter Criss tonight (February 3, 2001). It appears that Peter did not quit the band as reported elsewhere online, and KissAsylum.com was asked us to pass on to all the online fans the following, official statement from Peter about the current situation:
"I would like to express my love and affection to the KISS Army and my fans. It is unfortunate Gene and Paul choose to terminate their association with me for the Japan and the Australian tour dates. I am healthy and will truly miss performing for the Australian and Japanese audiences. In light of the circumstances, I wish the best of success to all.
Love,
Peter Criss - "Catman"
Paul Stanley: "Eric Singer Will Peter's 'Cat' Make-up
From: Footers/KISS ASYLUM Bulletin Board
This was published over the weekend in "The Advertiser." The guys that post this column (PS) have had regular contact with Paul and Gene over the years so I know this isn't B.S. This is the complete article: "Paul Stanley, frontman of rock group KISS, spoke exclusively to PS yesterday and confirmed that replacement drummer Eric Singer will wear the "Cat" make-up and costume of departing original mamber Peter Criss for [KISS'] Australian farewell tour. 'This is the KISS show. This is the show that people have loved and we've been known for. I don't see a reason to change it,' Stanley says. 'There's no reason to not give people the look that they're expecting.' Howerver, Stanley would not reveal the reason for Criss leaving the group. 'This really shouldn't be about airing dirty laundry,' Stanley says. 'When we make a decision as a majority we can't let one person derail it. There was no way that we were not going to bring this show to Australia.' Stanley says Singer will no longer play with Alice Cooper's band, due to tour Australia at the same time.
Criss Drummed Out of Kiss Over Money
From: Canoe.com
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Kiss drummer Peter Criss says he still wants to rock 'n' roll with the band but its leaders don't want him on the start of their farewell tour. A statement posted on the band's Web site said Criss had left the group he helped found, but gave no reason. On Saturday, Criss said Kiss lead singer Gene Simmons and guitarist Paul Stanley cut short negotiations for him to perform on the tour. Criss will be replaced by Eric Singer, who played with the band from 1991 to 1996. "It is unfortunate that Gene and Paul chose to terminate their association with me for the Japan and Australia tour dates. I am healthy and will truly miss performing," Criss said in a statement. "We were in the middle of negotiating and there was an offer taken off the table," his lawyer, Mike Celli, said Saturday. He would not disclose details of the talks. There is a possibility that Criss could return for the rest of the tour, he added. The band is playing Japan and Australia next month, and reportedly plans to close the tour with a multi-night stand at New York's Madison Square Garden in April.
Gene Simmons Calls Into WNEW Radio
From: KISSROXX@aol.com
Gene Simmons called in to WNEW 102.7 (New York) Eddie Trunk's Saturday Night Rock Show to talk about the Peter Criss situation. Here are the details he covered: 1) Peter is not out of KISS; 2.) Peter didn't accept KISS' contractual offer for the Australia/Japan tour only; 3) The door is wide open for Peter to play the final show with KISS. Gene stated he is saddened by this turn of events, and told Peter the band wanted him to be in the overseas tour, but that the lawyers for both parties could not come to an agreement. 4) Neither parties are mad at each other; 5) Eric Singer will be in Peter's make-up and costume; 6) Eric will play the songs true to the way Peter recorded them on the albums and will not use his double kick drum set; 7) Gene said he is aware of all the internet bulletin board postings and that fans are very upset and blaming him and Paul for this turn of events. He stressed he wants the fans to understand that there is much more to operating a band than just him saying what does and doesn't happen. He stated that professional bands are businesses and sometimes things happen like this, whether it is or isn't what the band members want. He stated that the band wanted Peter on this tour, but the lawyers for both parties, not the band members, have total control over all of these types of contractual deals; 8) More dates have been added to both Australia and Japan; 9) KISS will return to play the final show in only ONE city in the USA; 10) KISS will discuss what changes, if any, will be made to the set list when rehearsals begin. Gene was very honest and candid towards the whole situation, and repeatedly wanted to stress that, whether the fans believe it or not, they mean everything to him and the band and he hopes KISS does them justice with these final shows on this tour. He added that he hopes Peter will be there for the final show so they can end it all as they began it all.

WOW, that was one heck of an update Tina, thanx!!
I have one thing to add, but I don't remember the source. The setlist will change. They were playing 'Beth', which was sung by Peter Chris (Eric Carr did it very well, also, RIP). 'Beth' is out (what a shame). They are considering going to a harder rockin playlist. Songs being considered are 'Parasite', 'She', Unholy', and 'Creatures of the Night'. 'Beth' is the highest song on the charts Kiss has ever recorded, it seems strange that they won't be able to play it on their farewell tour!
Here's a point to ponder: If Eric Carr were still alive and in the band, would this tour even be happening? I don't think so, what do you guys think?

Tina, I bow to you as the undisputed queen of KISS updates! As for the final shows...my heart sank when I read the dates you posted! I'll be in Florida from March 30th till April 13th, so I'm praying that the final shows are in LATE April!!! I'll keep my ears and eyes open for ticket sales and inform you. I have my own little connection, so I'm guaranteed within the first eight rows, dead center for the final night. I was 4th row at Jones Beach, and have some AWESOME photos I can email to any KISS fan who may want them....
Gene's taping on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" was Feb. 1st. Anyone know what day it will air? Or has it aired already? I've already heard that he bombed and lost on a simple question.. they said he was too nervous.. (I thought they said that he only took home $100 for his charity)... Anyone know anything more about it? I'll keep hunting for info and get back to you guys..
Pagan.. the dates in April are not confirmed... so you may still get lucky!! That will be too soon after my move (just bought a new house), and I doubt I can afford the trip... although I do have open-ended plane tickets to use up before September...hmmm.. there is still a chance I may be able to go... let me know when you find out about tickets..

I have some pics but not a scanner.. so you'll have to wait a short while for mine.. I will get it done, though.. I promise! We also staked out the hotel where Paul was staying .. but his body guards saw that we were outside for a while and the police came and hauled us away http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//frown.gif It was fun while it lasted, though... there were very few fans waiting there because Paul tried to misdirect the fans to another hotel in town but one of our friends was a "runner" for the band while they were here and gave us the scoop, and not alot of people knew it...

Tina, the Rock Star Edition, Part 1 of two, of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire starts on Sunday the 11th at 8:00 PM (CST). Part 2 will be on Wednesday the 14th at 7:00 PM (CST). Not sure which night Gene will be on.
Not sure how much money he won for his charity, but when they had the celebrity edition shows the min. was $32,000, even if they didn't make it to the HOT seat. So it might be the same for the Rock Stars (Not sure though.)
Thanks for those dates, TJ! Yeah.. the charity takes home at least $32,000, but he would have been bumped back down to the $1000 limit otherwise. (That sucks, too... since Gene is so intelligent, I wanted him to really show off) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//gene.gif

Saw Gene http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//gene.gif on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" last night... The question was pretty easy but to me, he was acting kind of cocky and answered too quickly...and if he would have taken the time to read the answers over one more time and think about it, I'm sure he would have gotten it right... basically the question was "what is the word "pachyderm" referring to?" and he chose A. long nose (and he acted so sure of himself) when the answer was D. rough skin .... which if you sit and think for 2 seconds (literally) you would know that "derm" refers to skin.. (i.e. DERMatologist) There were some KISS fans in the audience with their faces painted ... very cool http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//cool.gif but I was disapponted that he lost on that one.. he just needed to slow down!
He was the only "rock n' roller" on the show... OH WAIT!! Well, Lars Ulrich was on as well... and I forget what he lost on.. but he wasn't doing too great either.. the rest of the contestants were more pop stars... Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray (who is a very smart man... and OH SO CUTE) 2 of the Backstreet Boys... Amy Grant, Gladys Knight, Sisqo, and some other woman that I didn't recognize...
They had WAY too much makeup on Gene.. I would have much rather have seen him in his OWN makeup http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//gene.gif
(his face looked orange) and the wig he was wearing was hideous... I had forgotten just how ugly that man really is without makeup... YIKES!

Gene has definitely got to do something about that rug. He actually looked like he had a black "Daniel Boone" raccoon hat on! He's not aging too well either. He's getting jowly. It's definitely time for KISS to call it quits. I saw a pic of Ace in the new Metal Edge, and my Goddess...he's hideous.
Anyone notice how much of a TOOL Lars Ulrich is? He just HAD to bring up napster! He annoys the crap out of me now. He looks like what would happen if John Lithgow and Bud Bundy had a baby. Geez....what a dick.
