For those of you who haven't heard, there is a new movie coming out called Rock Stars. It stars Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Anniston. The fictitional band in the movie are Wahlberg as the singer, Zakk Wylde (Ozzy, Black Label Society) on guitars, Jeff Pilson (Dokken) on bass and Jason Bonham (son of legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, he has his own band, I just can't remember the name of it) on drums. The movie soundtrack will feature songs from Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Kiss, Sammy Hagar, Steve Plunkitt (Autograph), Desmond Child, Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple and Rainbow), jay and Jerry Popoff (Lit) and Peter Beckett (Survivor and Little River Band). How's that for an 80's lineup for a movie soundtrack!! It sounds like the makings of a platinum cd!

AC/DC will do a second leg their Stiff Upper Lip tour in the Us and Canada. It begins in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. on March 18 and ends in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 5.

Armored Saint are now the confirmed opening act for Dio on the next leg of his tour.

the Halford live cd, Live Insurrection, is now confirmed to be a double live cd to be released later this year (no date set yet). It features songs from his recent solo cd and some rarely played live Judas Priest songs plus a few surprises. Did he recored a live duet or trio with Bruce Dickinson and/or Geoff Tate? That's one rumor.

Rumor: Stephen Pearcy's (Ratt) band, Nitronic, will not be recording a new album. Instead he is going to record a solo album.

Jackyll is about to start recordng their next cd to be released later this year.

Deep Purple has just finished recording their next cd also to be released later this year. A tour is in the works.

Great White's Across The Ocean Tour starts on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas. Samantha 7 will be the opener. Samantha 7 is C.C. Deville's (Poison) sideproject band.

W.A.S.P.'s new cd, Unholy Terror, will be released on April 9.

Bruce Kulick (Kiss) will release a four song EP in late Feb. called Audiodog. It will be available thru his website, www. brucekulick.com

Enjoy the ever-rising tide of 80's music!!!

Sal, check out "Love Machine" (this was a good video http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smiley5.gif ) and "I Wanna Be Somebody" by WASP. If you haven't heard either of those, you probably never heard them.

I went to a horror movie convention a couple of years ago, and WASP was actually playing there, along with Blackie signing autographs. This was when he first started making his "comeback" wearing makeup like "The Crow". At the autograph table, I said to him, "Hey Blackie, I used to play in a band that did a version of 'Wild Child'". To which, the wonderful Mr. Lawless replied "Oh Gee, that made my day." very sarcastically. I had always heard he was a dick, but he confirmed it that day. As I turned to walk away I said to my wife (definitely loud enough for Blackie to hear!) "Gee honey, I wish I could give concerts at horror movie conventions!" I think I dimly heard his "F@#K you!" reply as I walked away. Touche!

Peace,
Pagan

He may be a dick, but the guy can sing his ass off.

Plus F*&K Like a Beast is a classic song, the one that started the entire record ratings debate.

Sal, If you want a good WASP cd, pick up a copy of LAST COMMAND. Good songs, METAL the way I wish it could be these days.

Alright. I will definitely look into WASP then. I do hate to hear how people can be so rude, though. People do things that are so uncalled for. I guess "Blackie" is "Blackie Lawless"? I've heard of him before...

Jasper, WASP definitely kicked ass. No doubt about that! Blackie's being a dick doesn't take anything away from that. I was just amused that a guy who's reduced to a very "Spinal Tap" like performance at a horror movie convention would be rude to someone who was a fan.

As for Blackie singing his ass off? That I don't know about. He's a good screamer, but I don't think Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson or Geoff Tate have anything to worry about!

Peace,
Pagan

Pagan, I would agree that the four you mentioned would not have anything to worry about, but would say BLIND IN TEXAS sound as cool with Geoff Tate singing it? Lucky for him, he writes his songs, so they are fully suited for his voice. Growing up as a kid, with a TERRIBLE singing voice he was one of the three singers I always wished I could sound like. The other two being Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale.
But your analysis on the horror movie convention is dead on. Was that the same time that WASP had the song on the Ghoulies soundtrack?

BTW, thier cover of MISSISSIPPI QUEEN rocks!

Exactly....his songs DEFINITELY fit his voice! Actually...it was way past the Ghoulies thing. It was only a couple of years ago that they did the convention.

I never heard the cover of Mississippi Queen. I have to check that out. I have a great story about Lesley West. I'll have to post it for ya one day. Weirdest two weeks of my life!
