I'm not laughing Jen - you get two thumbs up from me :thumb: :thumb: Cirque du Soleil have the most unique, incredible sound, so many instruments, so much density and spectrum! that's great Jen ;)
...Like I said before, I made up my mind to buy 'Alegria' after I heard the first two songs during the performance
I haven't bought a CD since Iron Maiden "Rock In Rio". I joined emusic.com (Thanx Taz!) and been downloading and burning TONS of obscure progressive metal bands! :thumb:

Shortie Blonde 9-30-02, 03:36 PM I recently...like two weeks ago got some from my b-day:

That is totally great - this is why I fully support the MP3 revolution - if it wasn't for MP3 some of the rare and obsure stuff (that the artist once put so much time and effort into) may actually be lost in the vast cosmos of audio extinction forever and I think that would be a really sad thing - things like this are keeping it alive! :thumb:
Prefab Sprouter 10-01-02, 06:43 AM amen to that retroman. MP3 is good for obscure music.
I just bought Madonnas Greatest Hits and the latest Hed Kandi release "Disco Heaven".
wavemaster 10-01-02, 06:55 AM I can subscribe to that...downlading .mp3's is not only leeching the servers for the stuff you can buy in every record store, but also a chance to get some music from artists you would have never heard of - in my case some very good synth stuff from projects like Dearmax, Inscape, Fearing Christmas and lots more.
My latest purchases:
Boytronic - Autotunes (finally - a new album after 10 years!)
Soft Cell - Cruelty Without Beauty (another "return" - and they're brilliant as ever!)
DE/Vision - Remixed & Bonus Disc (Hmm...some remixes are good, some are...forgettable)
Sono - Solid State (DM-fans should check this one out!)
And, for the backcatalogue...Signal Aout 42 - Immortal Collection 1983-1995
I got Songs from the Big Chair - Tears for Fears - recently (additional tracks, brilliant on CD)
also Talk Talk's Greatest Hits
gently69 10-01-02, 02:37 PM Ha, ha, Timbo, bought a Talk Talk "Greatest Hits" last week as well.
And a "Greatest Hits" of The Style Council...

Shortie Blonde 10-05-02, 01:27 PM I ALMOST bought Never Mind the Bullocks Here's the... by the Sex Pistols but it was a dollar over what I had in my wallet! :argh:

Falco - Hit Singles
East 17 - Around The World (Hit Singles - The Story So Far)

Die Grössten Hits der NDW Vol.2 (DCD Compilation)
With the exception of X-Perience, I bought them all for the one or two tracks which I always wanted to have in my backcatalogue...and for 3$ each, it didn't hurted in my wallet too much. :D
Tydestra 10-06-02, 10:30 PM Being good does pay off! I got a gift card for a cool $200 for winning some Customer Service contest that was running... funny thing is, I didn't even know I won, and I got it the day I came back from vacation.

NewRomantic 10-07-02, 08:10 AM I am sorry to say that my latest purchase was not an '80's one! I trust you will all forgive me.
On Saturday, I bought a compilation album called "Clubber's Guide To...Ibiza 2002". It is a double CD compilation to which the sub title is '...40 Anthems from the world's clubbing captial...'
It features mixed trance music on CD 1 and I am yet to hear CD 2. CD 2 is titled, "Bar and club culture". I usually do not like mixed CDs, but CD 1 of this compilation is actually quite good. All hi- energy trance tracks that are mixed together well. I really like European trance music, particularly Ferry Corsten type music. Ferry Corsten is a Dutch trance musician who appears under many guises, such as System F; Gouryella and Moonman to name a few.
Trance music to me, is a little like '80's synth pop, in that it is quite repetitive. In a classical music sence, it is equivilant to the Baroque period, you know, Mozart, Greig et al.
OFF THE TOPIC
There has been some mention in this topic about Billy Idol. It may interest you to know that he was out here in Australia and was due to perform at the Rugby League Grand Final last Sunday night. He was part of the opening act before the game. There was a power failure and his act was cancelled!!! Oh no!!! I don't know what he was going to sing. My guess was "Rebel Yell"....
Was a great shame, but my he is looking old!!!
scott28883 10-07-02, 03:08 PM My last 3 cds I bought are/were
1. Joe Satriani-Strange Beautiful Music
2. Steve Vai-The Elusive Light And Sound Vol. 1

I knew he did Australia, but no idea that there was a power failure. He was gonna do like some Gen X stuff, and his top hits. :p Old? NEVER!
Tydestra 10-08-02, 04:44 AM Idol sing some Gen X stuff? Never, he never plays his Gen X stuff... the only time I heard the Gen X stuff was when he did Storytellers for Vh1

Brand1974 10-11-02, 08:53 PM Well, I haven't really purchased anymore CDs since the last time I posted on this thread which was the Bruce Springsteen CD.
I am looking forward to the new SR-71 CD coming out in two weeks, and I think the another U2 Greatest Hits is on its way shortly. Their new song "Electrical Storm" kicks ass!
Tydestra 10-11-02, 09:54 PM The new U2 comes out Nov 5th. Two different versions will be released. There's a limited edition verison with bonus DVD and ther regular version. That will be on sale for 19.99, the regular version will most likely be from 14.99 to 12.99 :)

(runs in shame)
I know, I know, I hate Nirvana too! They killed the 80's and all my favorite bands...they introduced grunge, and that 'I haven't washed my hair in three weeks' look that I hate! But they do have some really good songs. :p

Hello Ty
It's called 'NEVERMIND THE ORIGINALS, HERE'S THE COVERS'
And it looks like an Australian only release at this stage. It's a fairly new release so it wont show up on your shop's CD-ROM import catalog yet, but there is a company called 'e-com' that
specialises in importing stuff into america and you can find the
CD on the bottom of this list (complete with catalog number:
http://www.wmimusic.com/releases/aus0605.txt
(scroll down to v for 'various')

last year I 'ran over' my "Wish" CD when I was gliding around on my computer chair and cracked it right though the centre (though the cover) - I couldn't believe it! It was silly of me to leave it on the floor and I was pretty down about it because I bought that Cure CD during a memorable time in my life - I can't believe I haven't replaced it yet!

This month, I have and will buy a crapload of music. I am insane about that. I can keep calm in everything and can be really thrifty with money, esp. since the situation of a Uni student is TIGHT  BUT I spend recklessly when it comes to muzak!
Yesternight, I bought:
Marc Almond's Heart On Snow
Christopher O'Riley's tribute to Radiohead, True Love Waits
The Durutti Column's Someone Else's Party
Before that I ordered about $55 worth of CDs from Amazon  I spent over $100 and am about to spend $80 more. Holy crap! I didn't know Amazon was this f***ing AWESOME when it came to hard to find music!
Oh yeah, and there's that NetFlix thing. Thank you, sweetie. I will be broke by Saturday :p

Prefab Sprouter 12-15-03, 09:46 AM No Doubt have enought songs for a greatest hits??? Wow, Time flies!! :)
I bought Odyssey's Greatest Hits yesterday!
Holy crap! I am listening to A Certain Ratio's double CD set compilation of their early years. This is the only recording on CD I could find from these guys and it's amazing how this music gets totally overlooked. The only other bands I could probably compare them to are Dif Juz and Joy Division (of course, they have to be other Factory bands :) ), but the similarities are only marginal. This Jazz music is freakin' rad. It would make the Verve roster nod in approval ;)

galaga-girl 12-25-03, 05:17 PM I have cable TV and have Channel V or MusicMax on all day at my house so i don't really listen to CD's or the radio. MusicMax has all the old 70's, 80's and 90's songs and Channel V has all the new stuff so i get a great mix and it doesn't cost me as much money as CD's do.
I bought the two CD's because i found an awesome place online in Hong Kong which has a great exchange rate with the aussie dollar so the CD's only cost me $14 each instead of the normal $32 so i will probably buy more now.
