Hello all,
Well I guess one would argue that the music and the lyrics are the songwriters craft, and that is the way that they get their message across. The video producers get their message across in a visual way. Yes but it often makes absolutely no sence to the songs lyrics!!!
So I am going to create some visual realism here with a song that, in my respectful submission, begs for realism, and the clip can still be "arty" (for thoes die hard a/v boy and girls out there).
So here we go.....But first the lyrics.
Nobody's Diary / Yazoo.
If I wait for just a second more
I know I'll forget what I came here for
My had was so full of things to say
But as i open my lips, all my words slip away
I can't believe you want to turn the page
And move your life onto another stage
You can change the chapter
You can change the book
But the story remains the same if you take a look
(Chours)
For the times we've had I don't want to be
A page in your diary babe
For the times we've had I don't want to be
Just another page in your history
Prehaps if I held you I could win again
We could make a change and talk and maybe then
That look in your eye, I always recogonise
Would tell me everything is gonna be fine
You're gonna be mine for a long time.
Song : Nobody's Diary.
Artist : Yazoo.
Directer : NewRomantic.
Scene 1 :
Diary pages fall from the ceiling in Alison's
flat. She is sitting on a sofa. The camera mid room, revealing the rain of diary pages. The camera pans back showing more of the room and we see Alison on the sofa with many diary pages on the floor. Part of the song can be heard on the radio. The music fades as the picture fades. Fade to black.
Scene 2 :
Opening sequence of the track is heard.
Camera focuses on the room as seen in scene 1. The room is clean (there are no diary pages in sight). Alison is sitting on the sofa, looking sad. Fade in images of Alison and Dave, obviously in the past, having a good time - going out, restaruants, pubs, clubs... These are faded scenes giving the effect that they are memories. We still see Alison on the sofa as well as these faded images.
Scene 3 :
As verce 1 starts, we see Alison inside Dave's flat. She is singing the words. They both look sad, she looking at him. He looks down at the floor. A female (we'll call her Suzy) walks in from another room. Dave still looks at the floor. Alison leaves.
Scene 4 :
Back at Alison's flat, she is seen sitting on the sofa singing the words of verce 2. She is singing them into the telephone which is on a table to the viewer's left. as the line '...you can change the book...' is heard, Alison drops the reciever. Camera focuses on the swinging reciever (here is an "arty" bit, huh??).
Scene 5 :
(Chorus) Alison and Dave are walking with their arms around each other down the path of a large city park. There are tall trees on either side of the wide path, that meet at the top, forming an arch. It is autum (fall for those who know the season by this name) and every second tree has "leaves of diary pages. The other trees are bare of leaves. They pass a bench. there is a woman sitting on the bench. the couple pass and the camera foruses on the woman. It is Suzy!
Scene 6 :
(Verce 3) Alison is making a cup of tea in her kitchen. She goes into her bedroom and on the dressing tablo is a photoghaph of Dave. She sits on the bed, holding the photo in her hands. When she comes to the line '...everything's gonna be fine...' the photo of Dave starts to sing the line too (she is imagining him saying it). At the end of the verce, a large question mark symbol appears on the photo.
Scene 7 :
Alison is back walking down the same path in the same park as depicted in scene 5. The scenery is the same (ie bare trees and diary "leaves" trees). A woman is following her a few paces behind. Alison walks alone singing the chorus. The camera pans in on the following woman. Surprise, surprise it is Suzy. Suzy also sings the chorus. The camera moves quickly past both women (with blury park images as it moves). We now see both ladies walking towards the camera. As the track fades out, the camera lifts above giving an aireal view of the park. The women walk in the same direction. Fade to black.
Scene 8 :
Fades in from scene 7. Camera focuses on a black diary, sitting on a white table in a totally white room. A female hand with blood red finger nail polish, takes the diary and tosses it into a white bin.
Fade to black...
So, what did you think? Too boring? I like clips to tell a story. Tell me what you think. Do your own clip too if you like.
