View Full Version : Anything Special On Video From The 80s?
Iluvthe80s 11-04-01, 10:59 PM I was wondering if you have something that was recorded from the 80's that is special to you? Such as a concert, a certain episode of Headbanger's Ball, music videos, a favorite episode of a TV program, etc.
Unfortunately, I didn't own my own VCR until 1991 so I missed out on a lot of things from the 80's. I have managed in the last 10 years to get things from the 80's recorded from various shows off of MTV, VH-1, Comedy Central, etc. Some of my prized possessions are about 3 to 4 videocassettes of 80's music videos, my Young Ones episodes, a copy of when the Powerstation appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1985, and of course my 80's movies.
sunnysky 11-04-01, 11:57 PM My parents bought a vcr in '87. I was only 10 but I used it more than they did. I liked to record tv shows like Alf and an occasional movie like The Goonies. In 88 or 89 I just started to watch MTV and recorded a few videos. It wasn't until the 90s though that I really got a good collection of 80s music videos going.
I still have those old tapes and sometimes it feels weird to watch them again. The tv shows are the best to watch because once in a while you get a great 80s commercial in there and get a good laugh from it. :) My brother and I actually went through them once and just searched for the commercials!
Love,
~sunnysky
My parents bought our VCR around the same time. The first thing I did was tape music videos. Bon Jovi mostly but there are a lot of videos on there. What makes this tape even more special is that I was going for an ultra sound for my son and I could not find a blank video tape so I grabbed this one. I have great 80s music, some commercials ( I usually paused for most of them though) and my sons first movie :)
Poison PJ 11-10-01, 09:06 PM I Git a ton of vids and the Moscow Music Peace Festival

The YOUNG ONES rule!!! I have all four tapes from Fox! They are the best! I just love Brit humor!
I have over a 100 tapes of Madonna footage from 1978-2001 of performances, rare videos, interviews, candid shots, news footage, commercials, etc...The woman is tops in my book!
I used to *LOVE* the Young Ones, and still go for that kinda humour, but just recently I've just started to find them getting less and less funny. I used to scream with laughter when I was 15, but now it's all I can do to raise a chuckle....
Some Comedy does stand the test of time, but personally I'm finding them a little tiring these days.
DEEP GREEN SEA 12-11-01, 10:01 PM I used to record 120 MINUTES one MTV. I have tons of early alternative stuff.....I love going through them and seeing old stuff....like New Order,The Cure,DM,Siouxsie,Cocteau Twins(yes, they actually played them too),I could go on and on....
My favorite video though was Peter
Murphy's All Night Long video....love it.
Way ahead of it's time.
80s hair 12-12-01, 12:32 AM To ring in the new decade of the 1990s headbangers ball did a look back on the full decade of metal videos. It was Ricky and Motley Crue playing videos from each year. Started in 1981 and worked their way up to 1990. Every great video from pop metal was played that night!! I love that tape.
I also have many other tapes filled with music videos. A lot of them I am getting now off VH1 classics. Nothing but videos from the 60s, 70s and 80s with no commercials!! Many of my original tapes from the 80s were lost during a move :(

 I'm jealous!!! Wah!
Ok, I have a ton of Headbanger's Ball tapes starting from around 85 or 86, some hosted by Crue, L.A. Guns, and King Diamond, the Rockline Crue did, the Moscow Peace Festival, Freddy Mercury Concert for Life, VH1's Remember the 80's Metal edition, and an old GnR concert on tape. I love my collection, but I wish it was bigger. Like I have the room for even more tapes. :D
Therrall 12-12-01, 05:48 AM Though I have many videos that were recorded during the 80s, I don't really have anything that is really special to me, i wish I had a video camera back then. :(
greenfreak 12-14-01, 01:58 AM How could you forget Arena, Duran Duran's concert video and album? I would sit with my huge headphones on, plugged into our Fisher record player, and listen to the album for hours and hours. I would do the same with the video-I memorized Simon's every dance move, John's every smile... Does anyone else think Nick looked like Zoolander in that video? He looked like he had his cheeks sucked in. :D
I have been looking for Arena in stores, online in MP3 form... Can't find it anywhere.
I have a good number of tapes in storage that I taped of music video's going back to 1982, and some tv shows like Hunter, American Bandstand, and Solid Gold.
I have Pat Benatar's concert from 1983 "Live In New Haven" on both VHS tape and DVD.

Same here. I've got all sorts of stuff on tape from the 80s, but nothing extra special.
FOXX!! I MUST get copies of those Headbangers Ball tapes!!! Maybe just one at a time or something ? Please? I'm gonna check ebay for them now that I am thinking about it! Maybe we can arrange something!
VioletFoxx 12-19-01, 02:22 AM Tinajo~
We'll see what we can do girl. I just moved not long ago and most of those vids are still waiting to be put back where they belong...in my room! :D Remind me after the holidays and I'll go thru them to see what I have you might be interested in. Cool?
Very cool.. Thanks Foxx! :)
VioletFoxx 12-20-01, 03:23 AM No problem Ms Tinajo! Us metal chicks got to stick together! Hehe. :D

VioletFoxx 12-25-01, 09:49 AM Consider yourself stuck Gman. :D (gotcha back ;))
ElectricYouth 1-07-02, 12:17 PM Some of my special videos are my video with "Troop Beverly Hills" and "Sixteen Candles" on it, my reruns of "Golden Girls" and "Facts Of Life", and my big collection of 80's videos that I got off of the VH-1 Classic channel, but my most prized videos are two videos of KIDS Incorporated. They're so prized because they're genuine 80's artifacts. My sister was a big fan of the show too and would tape them when they were being shown for the first time on the Disney Channel. The incredible thing is that all of the shows on the videos look like they were taped yesterday instead of back in the 80's.
angeleyes25 1-07-02, 01:19 PM My parents didn't get a vcr until the early 90's so I missed out on taping thing's.I wish I had some of the old music videos on tape.
Roemello 7-26-03, 12:44 AM I have a tape of music videos recorded off MTV in the 80s that are kinda special in that watching that tape was the catalyst to bringing me back to the 80s in the late 90s :D
Two movies I watched a lot of back then as well in "Legend" and "Ninja III: The Domination". Also on my ninja tape, my mother recorded the Ghostbusters cartoon I watched (not "the real" Ghostbusters...the imitation one with the gorilla and two guys  ). I remember thinking she was weird for recording it at the time, but now I'm glad she did. Got the cartoon complete with commercials from the 80s :D
That's about it that I can think of :p
