It didn’t take long for the programmers at VH1 to latch on to the success of the hit series on their sister station MTV, yes were talking about “The Osbournes”.
The network is trying to capture some of the audience, since their ratings are not doing as well as they would like. So they are resorting to an assortment of new “reality” type shows that are similar to their “Fan Club” series.

We had to question the thought process of VH1 programmers when they started the series “Ultimate Albums” and then featured Eminem out of all of the real significant albums to be released through the years. Yes, they are pandering to the mainstream, trying to win over some MTV age viewers.

Here are some of the new “reality” type shows VH1 is currently casting.

Guilty Pleasures – This series will interview fans about song they love that are considered “Uncool”. This show will be in the VH1 countdown tradition.

Rock The House – Here is how VH1 describes the show on their website:
VH1's Rock The House is a reality series in which a musical artist surreptitiously redecorates a room in a fan's home in the artist's signature style while also allowing the fan to spend some time with his or her rock idol or favorite band.

VH1 are currently looking for fans for this series. Here are the cities and artists they are seeking fans for:

Los Angeles: Goo Goo Dolls fan, Tommy Lee fan, and Paula Abdul
New York: Eve fan and Ice-T fan
Atlanta: Usher fan
San Francisco: Sammy Hagar fan
TBD: Weird Al fan

Reunions: Here is VH1’s spiel on this series:
Reunions, an upcoming new series on VH1, is seeking poignant, compelling stories of a reunion in which music plays an integral part of the story. Is there a song or artist who could reunite you with someone from your past? Does your story involve that one person who changed your life forever, a lost loved one who supported you during some of your best and worst times, or even a group of friends, co-workers, or teammates who shared your most accomplished or most tragic moment? We're looking for stories from you that reveal how music shaped or changed you during a critical time in your life.

VH1 wants to capture the reunions on film and are asking people to submit their “stories” for consideration.

Rock Grave: Now we get further into the questionable taste of VH1 programmers with the series “Rock Grave”. Here is what they have to say about this series in their pitch to find fans to participate:

Are you a huge fan of a deceased rock legend? If so, VH1 may want you to participate in an upcoming special exploring rockers who have died, and the fans that help keep their memories alive.

VH1 will join you on your journey to the artist's gravesite, and along the way, we'll learn about you and why this artist's death has changed your life. We're especially interested in fans of these artists: Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Elvis Presley, Jerry Garcia, Cliff Burton, Randy Rhoads, and Brad Nowell.

Im an hardcore fan of VH-1 and so far their shows have been rather cool... but all too short lived.

The Osbourne theme show may be a bit too much though :D

Sad that a station like that would sink to M-TV level :(

I had that station a few years back, and used it instead of a radio .... I liked how they stayed away from anything resembling M-TV, like airing an hour long docu on ABBA and then in the middle (without warning) playing Sex Pistols :thumb:

That one show about the artists redecorating a fan's room sounds interesting. Why not have the Goo Goo Dolls do a room here in Buffalo. I wouldn't mind having Johnny Resnik (sp) do my bedroom.

I knew it was just a matter of time until they became another MTV. VH-1 was really becoming cool in the late '90's with Behind The Music and adding metal and lots of 80's stuff to their lineup. I have noticed the reality MTV style shows and it makes me ! It just doesn't seem like there is anywhere to go anymore for a decent music channel (except maybe VH-1 Classic).

"Reunions" and "Guilty pleasures" actually sound good to me. *ducks flying objects*

I don't think VH1 is as bad as MTV.....yet. It's getting close though.

Well over the past few weeks I have noticed they are showing the crappy "shows" on VH1 that they used to show on MTV. Making the video, etc. Now, if I thought they were GOOD shows, I would watch them, but since I really cant stand them, VH1 is drifitng off into unwatchable territory, just like EmptyV.

It's just funny how these stations got their start... and where they are now with their programming.

MTV= Music Television. There's barley any of that on there anymore!

VH1= Video Hits 1. Ok, where are videos folks?

From what you wrote, I give VH-1 a C.

Can this really fill up more than 1 show?
"Hi. My name is Diana. And when I was in high school, I liked Milli Vanilli. I liked them so much that I had posters of them all over my bedroom. I am so embarrassed now. What was I thinking. To this day, I cannot go to a party without hearing Milli Vanilli. I think it is cool to be yourself and like the music that you like".

I'm glad Canada doesn't have VH-1 (sort of).

EXCUSE ME? :D I cannot imagine this to be any form of success. Imagine Boy George decorating your house. Or Cyndi Lauper! :)

Does Paula Abdul have any fans? :goofy:

Sounds like this could work. If it's the type of show that has a surprise reunion, it could really give the artist a boost :)

Does it have to be exclusive to dead rockers? I say extend it to broken up bands and take a look at how fandom unites people and all that (and do a special on 80sxchange!).

I was listening to industrial thrash music one night and out of nowhere, they played ABBA. They kept playing ABBA after every 2nd song. It was great! :)

Speaking of VH-1, I just checked my e mails and saw that someone from the network e mailed me. They are doing a Behind the Music special on Cyndi Lauper and wanted to know if I lived in the LA area and would be willing to do an interview. I said yes I would be willing to do the interview, but I don't live in LA!!!
