View Full Version : 80's Music Videos That Show The WTC
Iluvthe80s 10-17-01, 12:34 AM Today I was watching some of the new channel, VH-1 Classics and noticed within a 3 hour time span how many videos I saw that showed the World Trade Center somewhere in the video. These are the ones I saw:
I Won't Stand In Your Way- The Stray Cats
What's Love Got To Do With It? - Tina Turner
Stand - R.E.M.
Living In America - James Brown
It's just kinda sad to see these videos now. Can you all think of some other 80's videos that show the WTC?
80sTrivia 10-17-01, 01:01 AM Stacy, I was going to post the same sort of message. I thought of this a few weeks ago. The WTC were also featured prominently in Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" video, which was shot on Staten Island. The Towers at night are seen at the very beginning and end of Blondie's "Heart of Glass" video. They are also featured briefly in Bananarama's "Cruel Summer". Then, of course, there are the literally thousands of movies and television shows that have featured the towers over the years... truly heartbreaking.

I also noticed the towers in the cover art for several movies at the movie store the other day:

Notice they are all Saturday Night Live alumni vehicles.
Iluvthe80s 10-24-01, 12:17 AM I found another one today:
It was a live version of Hall and Oates "Rich Girl" performed outdoors in NYC.
SurlyOne 10-24-01, 02:49 PM Huey Lewis & The News "The Heart Of Rock 'N' Roll"
Iluvthe80s 10-25-01, 07:29 PM Another I saw today: "Say It Isn't So" by Hall and Oates. At the end of the video they show the towers.
Iluvthe80s 10-28-01, 01:05 PM I'm not sure about this one, but I think in the background of one scene in Blondie's "The Tide Is High" video I see them. Also in the video "Bang A Gong (Get It On) by The Powerstation.
80sTrivia 11-01-01, 11:04 PM I was just watching VH-1 Classics, and they showed Phil Collins video to "Take Me Home", which also featured Phil standing across the harbor in Brooklyn Heights, with the Twin Towers in clear view...

80sTrivia 11-05-01, 04:53 PM Just spotted another 80s video that featured the WTC on VH-1 Classics, Al. B. Sure's "Nite and Day"...
I know this isn't a video, but it is an 80s movie. Trading Places with Eddie Murphy, Dan Ackroyd, and Jamie Lee Curtis. I caught this last night on TMC and when they go to the stock exchange at the end, the WTC is really featured. They show 2 or 3 really good shots of the towers.
sunnysky 11-07-01, 12:16 AM Yeah, I noticed last week how it was shown in What's Love got to do and Papa Don't Preach. Today I watched the Cruel Summer video and that last shot at the end they are looking toward them. It's still so hard to think they are no longer there. :(
80sTrivia 11-10-01, 04:14 PM I can't believe that I forgot about the Twin Towers being at the beginning and end of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" video. Also, I noticed while watching Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" video today, that two twin towers resembling the WTC were painted on the cityscape in the background while Michael is dancing along the lighted square street.

You must have been watching VH-1 Classic at the same time I was this morning. I was going to add that video in here, but you beat me to it!
