View Full Version : 3 Favorite 80s Toys
What were your favorite toys in the 80s? Certain things were invented before the 80s, but we didn't start playing with them until then (Barbies, Hot Wheels, Matchbox) so they can still count. :) What cha' got?
3. Barbie And Accessories. - I had the pool, Dallas the horse, an RV, a corvette, more clothes and shoes than I owned for myself....
2. Rubik's Cube. - I played with this thing for hours!! I could only ever solve two sides at the same time, though, because my brother tore the stickers off.
1. Fashion Plates. - I loved this thing!! I should say why, though...it's because I loved to color. I still do. I have my own box of 96 crayons and a coloring book or two of my own. Don't tell me it's sad, because I already know that! :p
3. Smurfs - in 1980 I loved to play with those things :) Always ended up with some sort of battle between them
2. Laser pistols w/sound and lights - Whenever I could borrow one of those I held on to them as long as I could. Great fun when you and a bunch of other kids roamed the streets playing soldiers :)
1. Star Wars things - My best friend had a LOT of this at home, so we would play for hours with Han Solo, Darth Vader, The Millenium Falcon and all those other toy's in the series. Great fun :D
In the 80's I was already in High School so my Favorite toy was my first car (69 impala). But I'd Have to say my other favorite toys were My Sega Genesis and my stereo.
LOSTNTHE80S 8-19-02, 02:43 PM I graduated from high school in 1981 so I didn't really play with toys in the 80's..guess AMK & I can call these "old folk toys"
1. My table top Pacman game
2. My stereo
3. Grendle (my red & white gremlin)
ImSoooSure 8-20-02, 02:13 AM Barbies-definately #1 on my list. I still have a Holly Hobbie trunk full of all my Barbies. Actually I suppose I was more into them in the 70s but I played Barbie in the very early 80s too.:)
My cassette player-Jeeze, I'd sit there forever with my friends recording songs off the radio. The quality was awful and there was always a DJ talking over the songs but we made tons of tapes anyway.
Legos-I loved these things. I had to swipe them from my brothers room cause I didnt have many. They sure were fun though.
3. My DogTown skate board
2. 26 inch Mongoose BMX bike
1. Custom made Lighting Bolt surf board......................
Barbie and Darcy dolls--- I had the pool too, Val. :p Also Cowboy Western Ken--whatever he was called! I had the cheap three story house with the elevator and picture of the furniture on the walls. Plus a lot of accesories. I still love to go down the Barbie isle of the toy stores. :D
Holly Hobbie-- I had the cloth doll, stove and I want to say, a house..hmm..i need to check for pics online because I really forget what all I had.
Colorforms--I had a Wonder Woman one that I loved :p

Jana, that's one of my favorite Barbies! (Golden Dream) I have to tie my hands behind my back to stop myself from shopping for 80s Barbies on eBay  Wish I could have all you girls over for a Barbie party... scare the heck out of our husbands & kids, hehe.
I have a hilarious picture of a very bucktoothed me with my Golden Dream Barbie (then mint-in-box) at the holidays. I'll have to dig that up & scan it. It's a riot.
My favorites:
1) Barbie - as above... heh
2) Star Wars (still a favorite, my husband collects the Legos, & I always play with them)
3) Breyer horses

#1 my beanie babies - it's a hobbie. Until I moved, I had a town I made for them. There was a post office, restaurant, a mansion (where Bessie Cow and Bongo lived with their daughter Nuts), a ceramic store, a garden (where Nibbly and Springy worked) a town office (Bessie was secretary and Kicks was mayor), an apartment building, a print shop, a public bathroom lol, a clinic, a store like Bath and Body works.
It's all in my closet now. waaaaaaaaaaaa

I loved my poochie lol. I had her for many years until she got lost while moving house :(
Iluvthe80s 9-06-02, 10:57 PM Here are my favorite 3 toys:
3. Simon - remember that electronic game where you had to match the colors?
2.My fold-up record player - I had this in the early 80's and loved it because it could be moved around easy.
1.Rubik's Cube - this is still frustrating but fun after all these years.
I loved Simon, too, Stacy! I had a little handheld knockoff a few years back, but my son took it over and he broke it.
They have a sort of 'Super Simon' out now, I saw it at Wal-Mart the other day. It's for two players, and each one gets their own four light buttons. Then they still have the little handheld ones. I was thinking that I may get that for Christmas, if Santa has some extra $$.
totallycait 9-08-02, 08:07 AM 3 - Fresh & Fancy. Does anyone esle remember this? It was a make-your-own cosmetics kit. I remember making lots of peel-off nail polish for myself. I avoided the perfume because their little essential oils really stank.
2 - Rubik's Cube. I actually have one sitting next to my monitor now and still play with it.
1 - Atari 2600. I was the last of my friends to get one of these, for Xmas just before the whole Atari phenomenon collapsed. I still play it on occasion.
Roemello 7-05-03, 12:19 AM I was the Sultan of Toys in the 80's... Only reason I'm not listing my Atari is I never really considered video game systems true "toys" :p
3.) Legos. These are the only toys I still have all of from my youth...now they sit up in my attic. If I had a lot of time, I'd still use 'em
2.) Transformers...tons of these
1.) Masters of the Universe figures, playsets...everything. I had damn near the whole collection
angeleyes25 7-05-03, 04:37 PM 1.barbie-still have all my barbies. Most of them are in still in good condition except for 2 of them. One got her nose bitten off and the other got her feet chewed off after my hamster escaped from it's cage.
2.My Little Pony.I don't have all of the ones I used to have but most of them.I even had the My little pony pink castle but not anymore.:( I wish I still had it.
3.Cabbage patch Dolls I had two of them including a rip-off doll that was supposed to look like a cabbage patch doll.I also used have the cabbage Patch Pony.
P.S.I remember Poochie.I had the Poochie stamp and the stationary set that came in a plastic box that looked like a purse. It had a little wallet,an address book or a notepad,a pencil,a comb and a mirror.

3.) spirograph ( designed things for hours, loved this one the best :) )
galaga-girl 12-12-04, 04:05 PM I had TONNES of classic 80's toys and still have most of them now. I love to collect them, it is tough but here are my top 3.
1 - Care Bears (I now have over 40)
2 - She-ra action figures
3 - Barbies
I also really loved my Ice Cream dolls and my Glo-Pals, my Glo-Worms and so many more. My Little Ponies where also very popular in my house, I still have most of mine :)
1. He-Man and Golden Girl action figures - I played with them together.
2. Now I don't remember what they're called, but they were tiny little figures of animals walking on two legs and wearing clothes, and you could buy houses and furniture for them... actually I still have them!!

OMG Playmobil. I remember those figurines. They were super cool :thumb:
Poptronixx 1-05-05, 05:33 PM This is a hard one because I had more than 3 toys ! Ha! Ha!
Here is my choice:
1. Sindy Doll and Horse, which I still have today in good condition !
2. Weebles. In case no one knows what I'm talking about, Weebles are egg shaped moulded people with no legs, they just wobble on the floor. My brother and I had a set of them, but most of it got thrown out over the years. I still have one blond-haired Weeble remaining somewhere - now where is it !
3. Lego bricks. I still have a few pieces and an engine left over.
1 Barbies (i played with them mostly in the 70s and early early 80s) I had the Motorhome, pool, more barbies than i knew what to do with and tons of clothes (my mom used to make us barbie clothes and furniture for Christmas) I had a ken doll as well (with the stick on mustache that i lost the first day) my sister and i cut off his hair and glued it on his chest and non existent genitals LMAO (ya i know you dont have to say anything lol)
2 Rubiks Cube.. I used to get so mad i would launch it across the room lol
3 Merlin - I used to sit for hours playing games on it, i still have the game...i gotta dig it out and see if it still works lol
