84-85, man, that had to be the best time that music videos came out. I used to live for any World Premieres that came out. Prince, Madonna, Wham, Duran Duran..man, they had some good video's for awhile.

I think that's when I first started watching videos.. Was that the same time Twisted Sister had We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock playing? I seem to rememeber a few... Eyes Without A Face, Wrapped Around My Finger, Addicted To Love, Sucker For Love, Doctor Doctor, Hungry Like the Wolf, Sweet Dreams...

I think that was the same time with Twisted Sister. Duran Duran I'd say were like video giants..they seemed to have more videos than any other act..and it was always something different. After "Thriller"..Michael Jackson wasn't that big after all..(can you say, "Over-exposure"?) I'd say in 84-85..that's when we had another British invasion, with DuranDuran, Wham, Culture Club, Eurythmics..etc.

Yep, '84 is one of my fav years for music ever! Most of my Countdown videos are from either '79 or '84. Love 'em!

blimey Sheree! that's the ones I only taped too! this is totally freaky! I used to get really cut about staying up late only to find that they would put a lame old 70's countdown on that I find very little interest in, but I just like you I start taping from the '79 episodes - it amost feels like the 80's with 'cool for cats' and 'video killed the radio star'yeehar!!

Well I don't stay up to watch them I tape them overnight and watch them the next day. Then if there's any episodes worth keeping I tape them on to another tape, it's cool having two vcr's! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Only slight less quality but I don't really notice that since some of those video clips are old to begin with anyway. Actually I wouldn't mind knowing what you do have from Countdown. I've even done my own covers for mine with the date and list of all songs on them. I can give you a list of all I have too if you like? I've only been taping them for 3 years so I probably missed the previos years if they were being shown before then.

well you probably have the same as me - I too only discovered it a few years ago and I was in a 'rage' to learn it's been going for quite some time! I can't stop thinking about all the stuff I've missed out on aah!

I too wonder how long it's been going on. I'll go look at the website soon. Some have been on before though like the episode from '76, end of year special with John Paul-Young as guest host. He puts a bomb under Molly's chair and Molly almost ends up with brown trousers!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif JPY is such a praknster! Some of the other specials like the dance contests are boring although good for a laugh, especially for the fashions and and the styles of dance.

For the years 1984-1985,I'd have to say some of the better videos were:Sharp Dressed Man(ZZ Top),Never(Heart),Hot For Teacher(Van Halen),If This Is It(Huey Lewis & The News) and Some Like It Hot(The Power Station).Duran Duran and Wham! also had some classics during these years. Many videos started to get a professional, movie quality look at this time.

Those were great days for music videos! We got MTV in 1984 and I was in heaven! Those were the days of seeing "Jump", "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher" by Van Halen all the time!! You would also see "Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO Speedwagon, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 and Def Leppard's "Rock Of Ages". For some reason those videos stick out as getting a LOT of airplay.

One of my favourite videos of all time has to be the animated music video for the song Can't Stand Still by Canadian new wave group The Extras. At the time, it was only the 2nd animated music video in Canadian music, and what a great video it was :thumb:
