In the '80s, I watched many blockbuster cartoons: Transformers, MASK (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), GoBots, Masters Of The Universe, GI Joe, Wheeled Warriors, Voltron, BraveStarr, etc.

But, Transformers was--and still is--my favorite '80s blockbuster 'toon!
:) :) :) :)

BLOCKBUSTER CARTOON: any cartoon that is violent and/or successful.

I Wouldn't Call GoBots Good, Since It was only a cheap knock off of the almighty Transformers (Which Is Still Going Strong 2day)

Yeah...GoBots was kinda cheesy. Really couldn't get into it much being a Transformer fan at the time...

My fave just barely edging out Transformers was the whole 'Masters of the Universe' series.

Another one not mentioned that was great...ThunderCats! Hooooooo! LOL :p

Voltron was my favorite out of the "blockbuster" 80s toons... we watched it at lunchtime in fourth grade. The whole class always recited the entire "form Voltron" sequence out loud... hehehe!

At our high school graduation, ('93) somebody started it in the stands. I swear, that was the only time during graduation when I had any regrets whatsoever about leaving my classmates, I was eager to get rid of them otherwise *g*

I could've sworn I saw GoBots before Transformers. Maybe just a peculiarity of how I happened to catch the premieres, but I distinctly recall thinking, "Hey, what's this crappy rip-off of Go-Bots?" the first time I watched Transformers. That lasted about five minutes, LOL.

Let's go Voltron Force!

Sorry... couldn't help myself *g*

At the end of the 80s, Super Channel (UK) featured a very dark and sometimes violent sci-fi cartoon. I donīt know the name of it anymore, I just wondered how this would pass through - the violent scenes were similar to some Japanese mangas in the graphic details.
Nonetheless, I loved to watch it... ;)

Yeah, I ALWAYS liked Transformers MUCH MORE than GoBots.

The female GoBots (i.e.: Crasher, Smallfoot, Solitaire, Vamp, etc.) didn't have much femininity, compared to the female Autobots (i.e.: Beta, Chromia, Elita-One, Firestar and Moonracer).

Okay... I spent much too much time looking for this yesterday so I thought I'd share it... it's the famous "Form Voltron" sequence. I got it from Planet Doom (http://members.tripod.com/~PlanetDoom/treez.html).

Keith: Position Keys! (Positions his key. The key inserts itself and the star lights up.) Launch Lions! (We see the lions "awakening.")

Keith: Ready to form Voltron! Activate Interlock! Dynatherms Connected! Infracells Up! Megathrusters are GO!

The Voltron Force: (in the famous "five pictures in one screen" shot) All form Voltron!

(We see the classic formation sequence, with Keith calling out the orders :)

Keith: Form Feet And Legs! Form Arms And Body! And I'll Form The HEAD!

(Another classic sequence, where Voltron crosses his arms and the lion-heads roar on the screen)

The Voltron Force: Let's go, Voltron Force!

LOL, thanks for indulging me.

I liked the She-Ra and He-Man cartoons. This next one wasn't a real blockbuster, but I always loved to watch Garfield.

I loved He-Man and She-ra. I used to have a sword and a mask just like She-ra did. I also loved Garfield. We have a lot in common. All we wanna do is eat and sleep *lol*

There was a time-period during which I could watch Voltron TWICE as day (usually during the summer and on nonschool days): January through September '85.

Voltron was aired Mondays through Fridays--from 7:30 to 8:00 am, and from 3:00 to 3:30 pm.
