Born in Fort Worth Texas. He acted in Broadway's "Les Miserables" and "La Bheme" and played Wayne Masterson on TV's "The Colbys". He got his first national success on country radio in 1980 when "Sweet red wine" hit #40 on the C&W charts. He had a string of 12 top 10 C&W hits between 1983-1986 including 4 of his 5 #1 C&W singles. His #1's included "Baby bye bye" 1985, "I'll never stop loving you" 1985, "Makin' up for lost time (The Dallas lover's song)" (with Crystal Gayle) 1986 from the TV show "Dallas", "100% chance of rain" 1986, and "Leave me lonely" 1987. He is probably most well know for the original version of "Wind beneath my wings" a #4 C&W hit in 1983. The same song Bette Midler took to #1 on the pop charts in 1989, also done by Gladys Knight as "Hero", and Teddy Pendergrass amongst others. He also did the theme song to the soap opera "Another world" with Crystal Gayle. Any other fans out there?

Every time I hear that Wind Beneath My Wings is by Bette Midler, I wanna scream. I liked her version, but I remembered his was first. Hers is a COVER!! Just like The Rose was a cover.

Anyhooo.....I like a couple of the songs you mentioned, but the one I actually remember best is 100% Chance Of Rain. I still sing the chorus to that one on occasion, when we get thunderstorms.

Ain't no sun
Ain't no blue skies
The wind blows cold
Now that you've gone away
And tomorrow
Just like today
There's a hundred percent
Chance of rain.....

I did like the theme song to "Another World" that he sang with Crystal Gayle. I used to watch the intro just to hear the song...
"You take me away, to another world...." :)

What a man! heh heh. "Bed of Roses" remains one of my all time favorite tunes from him. By the way, do any of you remember his guest appearance on "Designing Women"?
