I was just looking through my Prince collection yesterday and realized a lot of other groups and artists were associated to Prince. Here's a list of some of them. Please add any I may forget.
The Time
Sheila E
Appolonia 6
Vanity 6
Mazarati
Good Question
Jill Jones
Wendy and Lisa
BrownMark
Dez Dickerson and the Modernaires
Madhouse
Tyka Nelson (his sister)
New Power Generation
Rosie Gaines
TC Ellis
Carmen Electra
The Family
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis
Jesse Johnson Revue
Morris Day
St. Paul
I love The Time. I think they are one of the funkiest live acts out there. I have seen them in Copenhagen and it was great. Thanks for mentioning them here, DJ. :)

Yeah the Time were Brilliant! Although my favourite spin offs were Wendy and Lisa and Sheila E, "Waterfall" and "A Love Bizarre" being two personal favs of mine.
Just one thing, Lostinthe80's made the point of including Sheena Easton. I'm not sure she counts as she was a very successful recording artist in her own right before she ever linked up with his royal purpleness!!!

That's exactly why I didn't mention Sheena ;) but I figure no harm no foul.

Prince was definitely one of the most influential artists of the 80s.

When you mean associated, do you mean as in forming the band or writing songs for them? Or both? :)

More or less he formed the bands. If I was to mention groups he wrote for, I could go on and on forever. Like Joe Cocker, Kenny Rogers, Stevie Nicks, Bangles, Sheena Easton, etc. etc.

I don't know exactly if this artist is also fitting in this category, but wasn't Lois Lane also a "protection child" of Prince?
I know it's not 80s, but "Sex" was a minor club hit here in Germany, and this song is featuring all the trademarks of Prince productions.

He did a song called "Sex". It was available (in the US) on the 12" single for "Scandalous". I wonder if it's a remake??? I'd love to hear it. I'm not familiar with Lois Lane.
Am I the only one who freezes when I hear Prince mentioned as an 80's artist only??
I think that releases like Emancipation and Crystal Ball are far more brilliant than most of his 80's stuff. I know that some of the songs on those two multi-CD albums were made in the 80's, but still. The man is still one of the most influential artists out there. I know that Rave didn't chart very well, but it was a brilliant album.

Yeah I'm with you on that Flix about Prince being an 80's artist although I do feel that his peak years were 1983 - 89.
I also love Diamond and Pearls, Symbol and Gold Cd's. After Gold I sorta lost the whole thing with him. He just got too crazy for me. But I definitely think he is one of the most influential artists around.

I'm with you Flix. I love all his stuff from 1977's "Minneapolis genious" (sp?) to "Rave unto the joy fantastic". I have to admit I like his early 80's to mid 90's stuff the best though.
