Just wondering about this. How many of the old 80's arcade games were based on movies? Right now, only the two most obvious spring to mind - "Tron" and "Star Wars". What else was there?

I can't remember the name of it, but I remember a platform game for the C64 that featured King Kong, Jaws, Godzilla and other movie monsters.

I also remember the horrible Jaws game for the Amiga and the great Bruce Lee game for C64. :)

Indiana Jones & the temple of Doom
Rambo 3 (just another Cabal clone)
Superman ... Altho' this one is more based on the comic.
Moonwalker -Wavey gets credit for remembering this one (Yes he really is an old man ;) )

Aliens & BTTF .... But these weren't arcade games, both were made for the SNES

There are probably many more, that a search of K.L.O.V. (http://www.klov.com/index.html) will reveal :)

Apart from these there's been an abundance of comic-to-arcade ports .... some good and others .... well to put it nicely :yucky:

We also forgot the much talked about Raiders Of The Lost Ark for Atari (that I still don't have a clue how to play)

Hey! I remember that one! I had completely forgotten about the Indiana Jones games. I even had one on my old Apple computer. Good one. :thumb:

It was indeed Rampage. I loved that game it was one of the first multi-player games available in the arcades I believe. Of course there was Gauntlet too around that time.

As for other games based on movies, I can't think of any off hand.

Good topic Shakey:thumb:

Didn't "Krull" come out on arcade? I remember playing it for the atari 2600. It was the first movie-to-video game I could think of right off-hand.

Commodore 64 games:

Black Cauldron (may have been IBM only, Sierra did this one, I've never seen it)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Batman (yep, based on the movie, there was also another one more based on the comic)
Aliens
Nightmare on Elm Street (might have been 1990)
Howard the Duck (didn't play this one, only heard about it)
Die Hard
Predator
Platoon
Rambo II (this one was pretty cool)
Friday the 13th
Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II
Cobra
Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Hey Flix, there was a game for commodore called Mail Order Monsters. You would pick a monster proto-type and engage other monsters in battles. Winner got the equivalent of money to increase their monsters abilities. You could have Godzilla walking around with a laser cannon or some weird weapon. Fun, yet rather disturbing.

Everyone is forgetting Double Dragon. Was that in the late 80's?

Double Dragon. That was a 90s movie based on a video game wasn't it? Not a game based on a movie.

Hey Flex! It wasn't platform and no King Kong, but there was a C64 game with movie monsters - the "Movie Monster Game" by Epyx!

It did have Godzilla.... Mr. Meringue was obviously supposed to be the Ghostbusters Marshmellow Man, there was also a robot.... and a spider.... a wasp.... and my favourite, a giant green blob (The Glog).

Every city in the game had real-life landmarks you could destroy, and one on the New York level was the World Trade Center :(

They had Goonies for the original Nintendo. I think it was actually called Goonies 2 though. I remember Superman for the Atari 2600 too.

Did they ever have a "The Last Starfighter" game?

This is another of the opposite, a movie based on an 80's video game.

The rumor is that "Spy Hunter" will be coming to the big screen with The Rock as the star. Loved the game, not sure about the movie!

I've played (and still have) the Indiana Jones game. Not bad.

Actually, Aliens is an arcade game as well. I don't remember where the hell I was, but some joint I went to have ONE video game and it was Aliens. A full stand up game. As for BTTF, I have a copy of it on my computer. I'm not impressed with it.

The games that come to mind for me are Evil Dead and Dusk Till Dawn.

Superman is an awesome game for the Atari 2600.:thumb: I believe Aliens also came out for the 2600.

The Goonies for Nintendo is a pretty cool game, especially going into the various doors and exploring the rooms.

As for The Last Starfighter, I believe it came out on NES.
