View Full Version : Father's Day Gift Ideas
Greenway88 6-07-02, 04:01 PM My dad is the worst person to get gifts for. Clothes never fit, he doesn't really do electronics, he has every tool he could possibly want for tinkering in the garage and the only thing he reads is the newspaper. What can I get so when I ask him "Did you like it." he won't say "uh I guess so."
Use gift certificates. Thats the best way to go. My brother, dad, mom, etc are almost impossible to know what they want.
My mom once got me a $25 wal-mart gift certificate. My dad got me a gi joes (auto/sporting goods) gift certificate. I only shop there about once a year, but it was still nice.
I found gift certificates to be one of the best methods. Theres almost no shopping involved.
Does he have any hobbies?
ImSoooSure 6-09-02, 02:13 AM Get him a tie or whatever but then add a Baskin Robbins Gift Certificate (or whatever ice cream shop is popular there) and a family picture (or just a pict. of the kids if that's easier) to the top of the gift. It doesn't have to be a professional pict, just any recent picture. This way he can't complain too much! :p Unless he hates ice cream.
Greenway88 6-10-02, 09:04 AM Great idea Lisa, ice cream and picture is a great combo, especially if the picture has my three cute little girls in it.
Hobbies? He gardens a little and watches sports on TV. He also likes to play the computerized poker games. But mainly he's a putterer and a tinkerer. A Radio Shcak gift certificate might work, too.
LOSTNTHE80S 6-10-02, 09:27 AM Here's a suggestion...(this is what my kids are going to get their dad) A gift certificate for a professional massage and then we are taking him to Applebee's for dinner. Sound good?
My kids and I went out and tried to buy him something for Fathers Day and we came up with gift certificates. That way he can buy what he wants.
ImSoooSure 6-11-02, 01:18 AM I saw a great one today at Target! A t-shirt that says "Who needs hair when you have a body like this?" Ok, it's only good if he's bald and thinks it's funny. ...and most don't find it too amusing! Ok, scratch that idea! Funny shirt though.

I don't think my dad would let someone give him a massage. Applebee's sounds good though.
Check out Dave Barry's advice. http://www.80sxchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12111
Maybe I can dig up one of my dad's old shirts!
LOSTNTHE80S 6-11-02, 09:48 AM I changed my mind about the massage...Applebees is still in though..the girls did get him the "Father's Day" beanie baby though. They got him last years bear too!
This is one holiday I don't fuss over at all. My father's a real jerk who I have no contact with at all. Kind of depressing day for me.
Hope everyone else has luck picking out their gifts though. :)
ImSoooSure 6-14-02, 02:37 AM So, what did you decide on Greenway? Or are you waiting until Saturday to figure it out? :)
Greenway88 6-14-02, 10:17 AM The ice cream certificates are in the mail, thanks for the idea!
