View Full Version : Class reunion stories
iloveknightrider 5-23-02, 12:14 AM Sorry I haven't been here for awhile. Things around here are just too crazy. Well, I went to my Class of '92 reunion a few weeks ago. :( Let's just say that thanks to NAFTA I showed up the same way I left school. Jobless and broke :p I have to laugh at it or else I'll start crying.
At first I didn't want to go. I had a feeling that the ones that didn't give me the time of day when we were in school would be there. But then I thought just go and get it over with. Thank goodness some of "my crew" was there.
Everyone was like "So what have you been doing?" My only response is "Well, I'm on a waiting list for school and I'm taking some refresher classes while I'm waiting." Feeling like a total loser. :o Here, just about everyone had good jobs and kids and stuff, and there I was, an unemployed sewing factory worker.
Now this was sweet and it made my day :D
(My husband saw the look of shame on my face, pulled me over to the side and told me how much he loves me)
Well, we had dinner at the same hotel that 2002 prom was at. Boy that was fun:rolleyes: When the table of personality left, my crew and I stayed for some drinks. That's when the REAL reunion started. We're planning OUR next reunion the 4th of July of this year.
I was just wondering if anyone else out there and any reunion stories to share...?
iconoclast 5-23-02, 12:45 AM I skipped my 10 year reunion. They held it over Thanksgiving weekend.
I couldn't wait for my 10 year reunion.
I showed up with a very handsome man ( my boyfriend ) it always helps to have someone by your side. I shopped 2 months in advance to get the right dress for that night. I walked in and there was a hush
You have to understand where I graduated I was known as "the gilr that got pregnant" so they were all eager to see what I have become.
I walked in with my head up high and I didn't let them see how nervous I really was.
I had a great time. Everyone asked how my boys were doing and ofcourse as any good mother knows.. always carry pictures. I brought many. I also bragged about my job :p The company I work for is very well known and respected.
I loved my reunion and looking forward to the next.
Man I am getting old
Dancingdoll1986 5-23-02, 10:02 AM I had a blast at my 10yr in 1997. I did a stupid thing, tho', and cut off ALL of my hair. (For some reason, I didn't want to look like I did in HS for the reunion.) I had a great little dress...and NO BOOBS!! (Having had the reduction in '92.) It was GREAT!! I saw a bunch of people I wanted to actually talk with, and I was sad when the ones that really made HS fun for me weren't there. But, I've found them now...thanks to the directory that came out.
There was a classic moment in the ladies room. I was in there with a friend of mine who really just wanted to leave...(we had just gotten there), and in walks the b*tch of our class, the chick who tanned WAY too much and now her skin is leather. Well, b*tchface walks up to me, and looks me up and down. Now, in HS, I probably wouldn't have said anything, but here I am, 27 years old, so I said it. I looked right at her, and said "B*TCH!" She got all flustered and then, she actually said, "I'm going to tell!!!" WTF? She's going to tell WHO? The hotel manager? Yea, right. Gimme a break!!
I danced like a wild woman, and was amazed that we have the "Porn King" from Mayfield. (Kevin Blatt of "D-Money Show".) I was excited to see him, since he was my first boyfriend in 8th grade. When I heard about the porn, my first reaction was "Did your parents sit shiva for you?" His 'rents actually work for him! He's still a sweetie!!
I am WAY looking forward to my 20yr reunion. Tho' I am meeting up with a girl I was on Drill Team with in 2 weeks........and planning on meeting up with another friend down in Florida this summer.
80sTrivia 5-23-02, 11:19 AM Gretch, you dated a porn king??? I had a good  with the sitting shiva remark!!! :D
My 10 year reunion was quite a good time. Mostly all of my friends and people that I liked showed up, including my ex-girlfriend, Rhonda. We all had a great time and danced to nothing but great 80s tunes. We looked so goofy on the dance floor, doing the Cabbage Patch and the Running Man!!! It was a great evening and I didn't want it to end. When it finally did end, I had the same clutch in my stomach I had on graduation day, thinking it would be a long time before I saw any of these people again...
My 10 year is this year, but I have no desire to go. The high school I went to during my junior and senior year was one of the worst in Salem. Stuck up kids. Most came from rich homes and if you didn't drive a new car, you were scum. As far as I'm concerned, they can all rot in hell. (Yes I hated the school)
I really couldn't care less how they have turned out. I know we all change over time. If I look back at what has happened to me since 92, I am obviously 10 years older, moved to another city, have a better paying job (although not one I plan to stay with for much longer), have an 8 year old daughter, and so forth.
If I did go, I would anticipate at least 50% (if not more) of them being married, and probably 75% of them having kids. Out of all my friends, almost all of them are (or have been) married, and all of them have kids.
Something I learned early on is that many people will put on an image to impress others. If you ask a guy where he works, he might say "Intel". Yeah ok, he works for a high tech company. Now, what does he do? He's the janitor. Ok so much for having a cushy job. (Not that there is anything wrong with a janitor)
I have seen many people do this. You ask what they have been doing the past X amount of years. They say they went to college, got a degree, landed a job at Hewlett Packard, are making a nice income, just bought a new car, and are looking at possibly moving into a house in the next month. Their wife (or husband) is in the service, coming home soon, and they will finally be able to give their 2 kids a nice home.
Translation: went to college for 1 year, possibly 2, got an associates degree which was paid for by their parents so he/she could get a job, works at HP in the paper room, makes $9/hr, the new car is a Ford Escort or something real cheap, and the house is a 30 year old model.
You stand there feeling so inferior because this person has so much more than you, but if you break it down and really find out the truth, they don't telling you everything. It's just sugar coated.
This is why I don't plan to attend. I don't care what they have done, and most of them lie anyway.
I'm glad most people have fun at their reunion. I'm simply not interested because my school was VERY stuck up. Most of them will have families and kids, and I really couldn't care less what they have been up to.
I might seem negative about this, but you really had to go to the school to understand how bad it was.
Well best of luck to the rest of you that attend your 10 year!
I can't believe a lot of us '90s high schoolers are having 10 year reunions. How time flies.....
Recently I was watching an old TV show about this guy going to a 10 year reunion, and I grew up thinking he's so old and freaky. Then it hit me that I got a 10 year reunion coming up in only 3 years!!
I doubt I'll go to mine in '05. But I think I'll go to the 20 year one, maybey by then I can fly in with a helicophter and do some real bragging.
Kinda pisses me off that people exaggerate how old we are supposed to be at 10 year reunions. A lot of my peers can still pass for 18 year olds, yet they have that one car commericial with the middle age looking people going to a 10 year reunion this year.
iloveknightrider 5-25-02, 01:38 AM Hey Vincent
I feel the same way you do about that commericial. If you look at the banner on that it says Class of '92. When I saw that at first, I was like cool. But when I saw the people that l was like "I'm not that old!" I'm only 28. Those people look older than that.
Although, I do know a person that drives a car like that yellow one. Funny thing is that when we were in school, he was the type that acted like his poo didn't stink and that shopping at Wal-Mart was way beneath him.
I don't wanna make fun at other peoples misfortunes, but when grandpa's money dried up and it knocked him down a few notches, it kinda give me a warm feeling inside :)
BCRichRocker4JC 9-16-04, 01:00 PM Never went to any of mine. And I can't believe my 20th is coming up in less than 4 years. Class of '88 baby!!! Sometimes it feels just like yesterday even though a whole lot has happened in my life since 1988.
AngelicR 9-16-04, 01:07 PM I've never been able to attend any of my class reunions. Always not in Arizona or Wisconson or able to take time to go to those states for the reunions.
LOSTNTHE80S 9-17-04, 10:32 AM My mom is having her 50th year reunion this weekend...she is so neg. about it. I told her to just go and have a good time.
stlkev70 9-17-04, 10:40 AM I went to my 10 year reunion back in '98. It was pretty cool. A lot of people didn't recognize me because some of them when they last saw me I had mullet and at the reunion I had lost A LOT of hair! Also to come to find out that our class president is serving a life sentence for murder. The news wasn't all bad the most likely to succeed has done so he owned a cellular company and sold it for $10,000,000.
We didn't have a 10 year reunion, but yesterday I got an email from an old school friend and she wants to plan a 20 year reunion (in 2 years ackkkk where does the time go) So i will be part of the commitee (what have i got myself into?!!) Would be great to see some of the people from school, quite a few of them have moved out of the country so will be interesting to see if they show up :)
Hipechik70 9-17-04, 12:42 PM I hated my 10 yr. Our reunion was boring. I knew no one, but maybe a hand full of poeple. It was like the twilight zone! lmao!!! Well maybe 'cause I didn't hang out w/my own classmates..I was friends w/the older classes.
Princess 9-17-04, 12:50 PM I had no interest to go to either of my class of 1988 10 year reunions in 1998... I switched schools in junior high so I got an invite from both of them... Anyone I want to be in touch with I am in touch with or will get in touch with ... My husband didn't want to go to his either...
