View Full Version : Nickelodeon was best when...
CarrieAnn 3-17-01, 01:15 PM The best ever Nickelodeon stuff aired between 1989 and 1995.
You Can't Do That on Television
Clarissa Explains It All
Roundhouse
Just to name a few. Come on now, you can't argue with that!
Couldn't agree with you more. I used to love kicking back on the couch and watching Clarissa. Really liked watching Ren & Stimpy too.

If I'm here and your here doesn't that make it our time?
Roemello 3-17-01, 05:25 PM Actually, 'You Can't do that on Television' aired all throughout the 80's....I think it started in '79 actually http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//eek.gif I liked a lot of the stuff that aired in the early to mid-80's as well...one of my more favored channels back in the day http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

GIJOE Man 73181 3-18-01, 03:14 AM 'You Can't do that on Television' aired all throughout the 80's....But did Started in '78. But you can't forget DubbleDear and it's meny spin off
"You Can't do That on Television"!!
I loved that show!! Green Slime Ruled!!
And I would always say something to my parents like, "I did all of my homework and washed both of your cars!!!" And they would say, "Really? That's so nice of you!!" to which I would reply... "No.. this is an opposites sketch" http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif
My parents got pretty sick of that... and then later on, the term "NOT" fit in there nicely as well!

ROCK AND ROLL!!!
PAGAN IS GOD!!
Later!! Tina
Roemello 3-19-01, 01:51 AM Opposites sketch...I remember that routine http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif Slime definitely ruled!! Remember when they eventually came out with Slime shampoo? I never got it, but kind of wonder now what it was like....

GIJOE Man 73181 3-19-01, 04:55 AM Green Slime shampoo was sweet. But it have a bad smell to it. But a small price to.
CarrieAnn 3-19-01, 05:36 PM The green slime was definitely the best part of that show. Now, it's almost like commonplace. The kids shows they air on Nickelodeon these days take green slime for granted. When I was young, and I first saw that show, the slime was what made it great because it was such a rare commodity to find a show with a whole bunch of kids that would actually slime each other just for fun! You were always envious of those kids....
There were so many other great shows on Nickelodeon back in the day....
Salute Your Shorts
Hey Dude
You know, I keep trying to post these as they come to me. I'll think of one mid-day and wish I could come to the board and post it because I know I'll forget. But, alas, I cannot. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//crying.gif Oh, well.. Luckily, I have all of you great people to help me remember the good times!!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//biggrin.gif
If you think of anymore great old-school Nickelodeon shows, let me know! I'm racking my brain!!! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//spin.gif
http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//pimp.gif (Don't ask why I put that. There's no real reason, I just thought that it was cool!!!)
Roemello 3-19-01, 06:27 PM I liked Salute Your Shorts....I think that came out in like '91 though. Dina was a fox! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//icon20.gif
It'll take a bit of thinking to come up with the rest....there were plenty other good ones though!

CarrieAnn 3-20-01, 01:36 AM Yeah, I know that there were a lot of great shows on Nickelodeon in the 80s, but the stuff I liked the best was on late 80s early 90s http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//PSYCHEDELIC.gif http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//OFFWALL.gif http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//PSYCHO.gif
Iluvthe80s 5-27-01, 02:05 AM In the mid eighties they showed these concerts on Nickelodeon. I remember seeing Duran Duran and Kajagoogoo. I also liked Turkey Television.
djdaffy1227 5-29-01, 03:03 PM I loved "Turkey Television". I can't believe nobody mentioned "Dangermouse".
"duh...I heard that" Barf
"don't encourage him"
Great stuff and to think Alanis Morisette got her start on that show. She was in the episodes when Alister was the main character. After Moose, Lisa and Kevin left.

A nice little page for Salute Your Shorts fans.
80sTrivia 5-31-01, 12:43 PM I used to love You Can't Do That on Television. My fave character was Moose, she must have been on the show the longest! I had completely forgotten about the opposites sketch!!! Funny stuff, that!!! My fave scenes were the gross out scenes in that nasty hamburger joint, where everbody always ralfed at the end of the sketch because there was something skanky in their burgers!!! Also, I remember Mad Movies, where they took these old films and dubbed them over with ridiculous dialogue. Ah, those were the days...

nick has really changed. It was the best now it stinks.Pete and Pete also.
I was a huge Nick fan from 1985 (when we moved to a town with cable... joy!) to 1993, when I graduated from high school.
My favorite shows...
Ren and Stimpy "This must be the Land of the Lost Left Socks!"
YCDTOTV - The opposite sketches were my favorite. And the firing squad.
Salute Your Shorts - Though I always thought I was the oldest person watching, apparently not!
Pete & Pete - Michael Stipe was a riot as the sea captain.
The Tomorrow People - I only saw the remake, in 1992 or so.
Special Delivery, the movies on weekend afternoons... I loved The Box of Delights, I've been looking for a VHS copy in NTSC format for ages.
80sTrivia 6-03-01, 12:46 AM In reference to You Can't Do That On Television, I was trying to remember something. Whenever one of the cast members said "I Don't Know", then they had green slime dumped on their heads, right? But I also remember them saying something and then they would dump water on their heads, but I can't remember what they said. Does anyone else remember???

80sTrivia 6-03-01, 11:10 AM Well, that certainly makes sense. How could I have forgotten something so simple??? Thanks for helping me out, DJDaffy...

You Can't Do That in the 80s (http://www.SwiftSite.com/80sdude)
sarasunshine 6-25-01, 07:05 AM Speaking of Nickelodeon in the 80's. Anyone remember Nick Rocks, I used to see some music videos on there that I didn't see anywhere else...like Right on Track by the Breakfast Club, sort of obscure stuff like that. And they also had a show called Turkey Television...
[ June 25, 2001 08:21 AM: Message edited by: sarasunshine ]
djdaffy1227 6-25-01, 01:21 PM I remember Nick Rocks. That is the only place I ever saw the video for "One simple thing" by the Stabilizers. That means something because they are the only band from Erie to ever be signed to a major lable (Columbia).
Turkey Tv was great as well. That was the first place I saw the video for "fish heads" by Barnes and Barnes and "Cheeseburger in paradise" by Jimmy Buffett. Also the first time I saw Dana Carvey.

I never got Nickelodeon where I grew up, so I can't say. I'm just still upset about the fact that at some point MTV became more like FOX; and that everytime I turn to that or VH1 I never seem to hit a video. Just some dumb show with someone drunk or has been rock star. Gosh I'm in a bad mood tonight! Sorry.
Rogue588 6-29-01, 06:18 AM Nick is similar to the Disney Channel.
MAN does it suck now. They hardly show ANY classic Disney movies or cartoons like they did in the 80s. SOMETIMES they show classic stuff late at nite. Like, ONCE a week.
TheLubbocks 7-15-01, 07:48 AM Nickelodeon was radical back in the day!! i loved it before it turned into NICK!!
okay lets admitt these shows ruled!!
-you can't do that on television!!
-Dangermouse
-Welcome Freshman
-Pinwheel (pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around look through my pinwheel and see what i've found)
-and Today's special with Jodi, the manachain, and mufft mouse!!
ps I loved the scenes from ycdtot where they told jokes from the lockers!! plus Moose was funny and Alister was like so rad!!
