View Full Version : 80's Party
 Hello everyone! I have been wanting to host an 80's party for years, and was sooooo excited to see this as an actual category. I have a lot of neat ideas to make my party a success, but am wondering if anyone knows if there is a place, in my area, where you can rent arcade games for the night?! I would love to get a pac man or space invaders game just for the night...I am trying to make my party as authentic as possible, so if anyone here has hosted a successful 80's party, I would love to hear from you!:ego:
I think the biggest problem will be to get the guys I know to actually dress the part. The girls are no problem, as most of my girlfriends love the big hair, heavy makeup, and clothing of the 80's...
All comments appreciated...
Thanks so much!
BlitzKid 5-21-02, 07:40 AM You just have to give the guys some ideas about not too extreme 80s fashion like leather ties and tell them if they do not dress up themselves you will dress them up. With eyeliner and hairspray and a net shirt! You will see they suddendly will be really creative ... :)
One guy on my 80s party painted "CHOOSE LIFE" with a pen on his T-shirt, as he couldn't get the original, it looked great!
sketcher 5-21-02, 10:21 AM I remember that. Saw the video ;)
It is hard for a guy to think of what to wear. Me, I lucked out. I opened my closet door and used what I had (which was no 80s clothes). I took a shirt and left the top 2 or 3 buttons undone. I did have a thin tie which I tied around my neck but left it loose. As for hair, well, just tease it.
But I like the idea of being dressed up if you don't show up dressed up!
Another thing you might like to do is play all music on a record player (if you can).
Thanks guys! Great idea...I think I will threaten with dressing them up myself if they dont come dressed...I will also include some fashion ideas in the invitations too, just in case! Thanks again!
Hey Dawnie!
Did you have your '80s Party?
If so, you need to post some pics and tell us all about it!
I'm trying to talk my husband into having one as well!
I think it would be great fun! :D
Hi Bambi-
No, I am still in the planning stages of it all...It probably wont be held till early next year... I know, I know, but I want it to be as authentic as possible...:) I am a detail freak when it comes to any party, so I want to do this right and make it a party to remember...I will keep you all posted though...and definitely post some pictures when I hold it! :)

Ooooh, yeah, that's right, everytime I went to a party I had to bring some albums over - which was so much fun to sort after the party, I ended up putting address labels on the cover or at least on the protective sleeve inside the cover. So the record player idea is very much in keeping with the 80s!
I remember going to a few parties in the mid-80s where someone rented The Breakfast Club and played it (in the background) while we were socializing. Well, once someone rented Willy Wonka instead.
Oh Mookie! Too funny!
I always had to bring my albums to parties as well!
I used to write my name real big on the inside paper sleeve!
You also reminded me of a picture I scanned for a friend recently.
This is me in 1980 and Collier Strong, who is now a famous makeup artist in Hollywood.
Notice albums in hand. I think that is VanHalen's "Women and Children First"!
(Also Notice Journey concert t-shirt which I still have today!) :D
Harmony Bliss 6-14-02, 06:34 PM I have most of my 80's clothes still, some of it fits but alot of it is too small. I have the red leather fringed jacket, some of those 80's belts w/ the round cirle things on them, some of the leather boots w/ the fringe on the top, alot of the tiger- and leopard- stripped bandanas, .... the only 80's dude I know who still has longhair has alot of 80's tour-shirts, the jersey kind w/ the black long sleeves.
I don't know one guy who totally dresses 80's although I did see a few mullet guys at a club recently who looked like 1986 to me.
Kilakilarney 2-10-04, 06:50 PM I'm throwing a surprise party in 2 weeks for my husband's 30th. Everyone has to dress in 80s costume. Being 4 months pregnant, my options are limitied...I'll either do the Flash Dance ensamble or something along the lines of Punky Brewster... any other suggestions?
I also want to have some games, but I dont want the party to be too "organized". THoughts?
Sketcher - what is that penguin you have as your icon?! Is that Pengu? That old cartoon?! I've been looking for stuff from that cartoon forever!
Blitzburgh87 2-10-04, 09:23 PM im not sure how easy arcade games are to come by plus the cost. you might want to concider a playstation ect there are games for them that include alot of 80's games.
goodluck, hope things turn out great.
mickeyintexas 2-20-04, 05:35 PM the problem with us guys doing the 80's style is the hair. Hey, we just can't grow it out like we use to. Not all of us anyway. I try to grow my hair out I look like a total dork.
I long for the days when I had a mullet.
