Ok, folks, who's gonna win the Cup this year? Who's gonna make it through the first round?
I think the Bruins can take the Habs, and the Canucks should pose no serious prob for the Wings. After that it gets harder to pick. But since I have a history of going out on a limb with predictions (only to embarass myself), why stop now? :D

Flyers over Senators
Avs over Kings
Devils over Hurricanes
Sharks over Coyotes
Leafs over Islanders
and (remember that limb I was telling you about, here I go...)
B'Hawks over Blues

What say ye?

I'd like to see my Bruins win their first Cup in over 20 years, but I'm afraid that ain't going to happen unless someone in the West pulls off an upset over the Redwings.

Still, you never know, the way this sports year has been going. Diamondbacks over the Yankees, Pats over the Rams, Indiana over Duke... anything goes!

Well it looks like (once again) my learned predictions are going right down the crapper!
Advice: Never bet money based on MY predictions

No wonder I was last place in the hockey fantasy league! :D

Will do...
(ahem) The Islanders to win it all! There we go.
Say Bogie, did you see my thread about your Leafs' AA team (RiverKings) winning the CHL championship? You guys can call up all the players you need now. :D

Thanks Nolan :)

I missed the thread about the River Kings. Good job! I hope there are some decent players down there. Lord knows we can use them with all the injuries piling up.

The Leafs are normally lucky with injuries at playoff time. But this year it is terrible. Yushkevich, Sundin, Renberg, Roberts have all missed games. Tough to see them going too far without their best players. :(

How do y'all feel about the booing of the national anthems in the playoffs so far? Personally, I think it showed a severe lack of class. Disrespect for the anthems of either of 2 great countries has no place in the game of hockey.

Also, while I'm on the soapbox, McLaren's hit on Zednik was dirty.:hammer: He knocked his friggin block off on purpose. :goofy:
After I saw that, I was rooting for the Habs.

re: booing national anthems - it's especially stupid given the number of Canadians and Americans on the same teams. I would never judge a whole country by a bunch of drunken morons at a sports game though - imagine what people would think British folks are like if they only knew them from soccer.

No one will agree with me, but I think national anthems should be done away with altogether before sporting events except maybe special occasions - I just see no reason for it at every single game ever. It's a holdover from WWI and you would never think of it if you hadn't heard of this being done. I mean, nobody complains that the anthem isn't played at the theatre before movies anymore!

Good point, Chris. I can see booing players, coaches, refs (esp. refs), even other fans. But the anthem? What the hell did that accomplish?

I see your point, Chris, but don't hold your breath. Heck, I want the anthem! That's part of the game to me! Why not do away with the player introductions, cheerleaders, macots, and even the ubiquitous disco ball while we're at it? Even in the South where I live, minor league hockey teams will play O, Canada!, just to pay homage to the country who gave us the game. :thumb:

Keep the National anthems, I take alot of pride in hearing them and standing up when played before events... even get goosebumps during the Olympics... Hell I even remember as a kid in elementary school having to stand through both O Canada and God Save the Queen

Wow, that's interesting Cal. I understand the reasons why both anthems were sung, but I guess I never thought about it.

I still get goosebumps everytime I hear the US anthem at any sporting event. My kids know I expect them to stand quietly or sing along with their hands over their heart during the anthem. I think it's good for them to instill pride in their country in them. These days, U.S. sporting events have taken to the singing of "America, The Beautiful" along with it, and I'm all for that too!

BTW, Cal, you didn't give us any predictions yet... :D

My predictions

Ottawa over Toronto (Patrick Lalime est tres fort while Joseph now sucks)

Montreal over Carolina (Jose s/b Hart winner and should have been Team Canada starting goalie in Olympic's)

Detroit over Saint Louis- (What doesn't Detroit have)

Colorado over San Jose (even though I hate Patrick Roy)
